@KQEDForum please ask your guest from Heirloom Carbon why releasing carbon that has already been sequestered in limestone results in a net increase in carbon sequestration.
Well, thanks for answering. I get all the reasons, but what's the growth strategy without interoperability? I need a single app that I can use to msg ppl without wondering which of the tech Balkans those ppl reside in, and that doesn't seem to be Signal anymore.
@KQEDForum I recently stopped using Signal because they're going to stop sending and receiving SMS. I can't convince all my friends to use Signal and only Signal. Privacy is good, but so is convenience.
@Oaklandside If vacancy is high, why isn’t the tax working? If it’s low, what does that say about supply-side solutions to the housing crisis? Is there an ideal vacancy rate?
@Oaklandside I seem to remember voting on a vacancy tax in the last election, and I was surprised to learn that Oakland has recently met goals for market rate housing. What is the vacancy rate for market rate housing built in Oakland in the last 10 years?
@RosemaryMosco Will check these out! I’ve recently been obsessing over Polyphia, which is at least metal-adjacent. As far as I can tell metal/nature crossover seems more prevalent among plant and herp ppl.
@young4ebmud@ebmud Like what is the temperature of wastewater discharge relative to the water it enters? Does the depth that it enters contribute to the potential for algal bloom, e.g. if you warm up some deeper, cooler water, could that cause a bloom regardless of nutrient load?
@young4ebmud, just saw a memo you posted re: the Harmful Algae Bloom for the @ebmud board that indicated bacterial levels were not elevated at discharge sites, suggesting nutrients don't explain the current HAB, but what about the temperature of the discharge?
iNat is hiring for two positions: sysadmin / devops and React Native developer. If you know anyone who loves nature and has either of those skills, please encourage them to apply! https://t.co/Mruwg166cx
@dillonliam The data comes from the Canadian *federal* census or some kind of city or provincial census? Does the US census collect similar information? Is either reliable a reliable measure of occupancy?
@ReaderMeter If you haven't already, I recommend reading https://t.co/8KeCtcDCBg. Expert / amateur conflict, networking tech, listers vs. behaviorists, it's all there from the beginning.
@ivanlpenn Informative piece. What are the rooftop solar companies in CA with unionized employees? Why can't the utilities install and maintain rooftop solar?
