The word "capitalism" was not coined by its champions. Marx popularized it in the 1860s as a term of abuse, a label designed to make voluntary exchange sound like a conspiracy of the owning class against everyone else. You inherited that framing without realizing it, and so did most economists who use the word casually today.

Before Marx, the thing we now call capitalism had no single name because it needed no special defense. It was simply commerce, trade, production, the ordinary activity of human beings pursuing their interests through cooperation and exchange. Adam Smith in 1776 wrote about "the system of natural liberty," not capitalism. Turgot, writing in France a year earlier, described markets as the spontaneous outcome of individual property rights. Neither man felt compelled to brand the system because no one had yet launched a coordinated ideological attack requiring a rebuttal.

Marx's packaged a moral indictment inside a noun. Once you accept the word "capitalism," you implicitly accept that the profit motive, private ownership, and voluntary contract form a distinct ideological "ism" with deliberate architects and beneficiaries. The state enters the picture as the purported neutral corrector of capitalism's excesses. This framing is backwards. The state is not a referee. The state is an institution that sustains itself through compulsory taxation and the monopoly on legal violence. Every intervention it enacts transfers wealth from producers to political beneficiaries. That transfer is the original problem the market solves around.

Free market thinkers from Ludwig von Mises to Henry Hazlitt spent decades fighting on terrain the enemy chose. Mises preferred "the market economy" precisely because it described a process rather than a power structure. Hazlitt wrote in plain declarative sentences to strip the ideology back out of the subject. The word "capitalism" smuggles in the assumption that without deliberate institutional design, voluntary exchange produces exploitation. We tacitly accept that assumption every time we use the word uncritically.

Words shape arguments before arguments even begin. The socialist tradition understood that in 1867. Most of its critics still haven't caught up.

I cannot begin to describe how sick I am of the sanctimonious, “credentialed” types now emerging to tell us that no one really knew, that everything was messy, that it was the fog of war, and that everyone was simply doing their best under difficult circumstances.

None of that is true.

The evidence was there and the facts were known, it’s just that the public health establishment, the credentialed elites, and the institutions they control lied about the origin of the virus, the infection rate, lockdowns, masks, the “vaccines,” and everything else.

Many of us knew it at the time, and we said so at the time. That is the part I find hardest to accept. The people who lied, enforced the lies, or quietly went along with them will keep their jobs, their television contracts, their prestige, and their institutional power. Meanwhile, those of us who challenged them from the trenches were threatened with professional ruin, censorship, and permanent dismissal as conspiracy theorists. And many paid exactly that price, despite having been right all along.

We risked everything by telling the truth. They risked nothing by lying. We were punished, and they were rewarded.

Commies never needed to beat you in a debate, just needed to make sure the debate never happened on open ground.

Gramsci (Italian Marxist) called it cultural hegemony and the war of position.
The goal is for commies to take the institutions that shape what people believe, such as the schools, the universities, the media, and entertainment.

The purpose is to install the ideology so deep that it stops looking like an opinion and starts feeling like common sense or the natural order of things. People absorb it before they’re old enough to question it, and most of them never even realize an argument took place.

And once those institutions are quietly under control, politics inevitably follows on its own. Their patient and steady capture replace elections and honest persuasion.

But the thing is that people see it.
Gallup measured trust in American media in September 2025 at 28%, the lowest number in the entire 50 year history of the poll, down from 72% in 1976.

For the first time, more Americans say they distrust the media outright than trust it at all. So the institutions are captured, they’re manufacturing consent, but they’re not omnipotent.

And as long as at least some people still distrust, they still have a fighting chance to alter, evade, or abolish these infected institutions.

A major theme of the Fauci diaries is the persistent thread from the very beginning Jan 9, 2020 to the end: the shot does not work as expected due to inevitable mutations. They pushed ahead anyway, and despite early and growing evidence of grave injury. Neither safe nor effective. Forced it anyway. This is as big a scandal as the lockdowns, business destruction, violations of religious freedom and censorship.
