PNP NEWS 🗞️ : "DECLARE THE DROUGHT A NATIONAL EMERGENCY" — RUSSELL URGES GOVERNMENT ACTION FOR RURAL JAMAICA
Opposition Spokesperson on Rural and Community Development, Dr Kenneth Russell, is calling on the Government to declare the prevailing drought a national emergency and mobilise an extraordinary response across affected parishes, as prolonged dry conditions take an increasingly severe toll on rural communities.
"This is an unfolding emergency, especially for rural Jamaica. Farmers are watching crops wither, livestock suffer and livelihoods disappear, while families struggle to find enough water for their most basic needs," Dr Russell said.
He warned that drought destroys quietly, field by field, farm by farm, but the economic and human damage is just as devastating as more visible disasters.
The crisis is especially dangerous for rural Jamaica, where poverty and food insecurity are already deeply concentrated. Dr Russell cited UN estimates that more than half of all Jamaicans face moderate or severe food insecurity, a burden felt hardest in rural communities already struggling with reliable water access

Fourteen years of safe driving should speak louder than an accent.
UNITED SIKHS Director of Operations Bhupinder Kaur urged lawmakers to protect the livelihoods of qualified commercial drivers impacted by the recent FMCSA rule change.

Quite a lot is known about how cannabis affects performance of complex tasks. Much less is known about how to turn a positive test into a reliable timestamp for impairment. My piece. https://t.co/YPjRLa2NGC
Dr Chong Karleen: "We must stop describing youth vaping as merely a lifestyle choice. It is often an engineered pathway to nicotine dependence and, for some young people, a route to dangerous illicit substances."

📌The groups, which also included Haram, Suaram and Bersih, made four key demands:
• Establish a committee involving civil society, student groups and human rights agencies to ensure transparent reforms.
• Review provisions and discretionary powers that restrict civic space, affect youth participation and impose disproportionate criminal penalties.
• Sign and ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
• Adopt 10 UN principles and guidelines on peaceful assemblies.

In response to people who support Syerleena's remarks and claim that underaged girls "honey trap" men by selling sex, did anyone force those men to have sex?
If a girl looks young, can't men pause and demand to see her driver's license or IC to prove that she's of age before they engage in intercourse?
And if she can't produce those documents, can't men just walk away? Is that so difficult?
@boosulyn Well said @boosulyn This MP is completely out of sync with reality. She is not fit for the office she represents. And men must be responsible for their involvement with underage girls.
Syerleena Abdul Rashid should resign from the parliament select committee on women, children and community development for her disgusting remarks blaming rape victims, including underaged girls who cannot consent to sex.
An MP who doesn’t understand statutory rape doesn’t belong to a parliament committee on women and children.
As it is, rape victims have such a hard time in the criminal justice system.
Now, an MP is alleging that rape victims make false accusations and “destroy men’s lives” because they got their hearts broken.
Does the victim’s lifelong trauma not matter?
This is one of the most appalling things I’ve seen coming from a politician. And it’s a woman MP, from DAP, at that.
