The government has actively facilitated genocide in Gaza, including through its continued arms sales to the Israeli military.
Today in Parliament, I reintroduced my Bill to suspend all arms sales to Israel & hold the government accountable for its role in enabling such horrors.
This real film fans! We can finally reveal the details of the boutique home video label dedicated to South Asian Cinema. A major new project that me & @ranjitsruprai have been working on together for a while now! Please support us! More info & details through the week...

Israel has destroyed the last remaining hospital in northern Gaza.
We have witnessed the total decimation of Palestinian healthcare, met with silence from political leaders who refuse to acknowledge the horrors they have enabled.
This is the dehumanising reality of genocide.

Sick to death of this style of opportunistic film journalism when it comes to South Asian Cinema. The people who are doing the work often never get a chance to speak, to articulate themselves in the mainstream. Yeah, pipe down, we ain't giving shit to you.
So, that Ryan Gilbey piece in The Guardian has sneakily been updated with a grudging acknowledgment that I curated Badnam Basti as part of the season at the Barbican.
On reading the Guardian article, it feels to me that the complete erasure of Omar’s curation and very existence was a deliberate decision and part of a pattern of structural racism described in Omar’s response below and by others I know in UK film academia, exhibition and media
If you are writing about a film season that someone has taken the time & effort to curate then it might be a good idea to contact the curator. I'm pretty sure they will be able to provide invaluable broader context and have something to say about the films they have curated.
I guess I shouldn't expect anything new from British film culture & its myopic approach to South Asian film programming, which exists in a cultural hinterland. So much is at stake when it comes to representation & inclusion, & a piece like this omits knowledge, labour, expertise.
