We mourn the loss of our brilliant, beloved colleague Ann Hornaday, longtime film critic for The Washington Post and author of “Talking Pictures: How to Watch Movies” and an upcoming book on ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN. A gift of a critic, writer and friend. https://t.co/E1cyI2bHj5
All this moaning about PIP as if disabled people are rolling in cash. Price a specialist wheelchair, seating, pressure cushion, splints, boots, adaptations & transport. Many families fundraise or rely on charities for essentials. That’s the “high life” you’re sneering at.

The narrative around disability benefits has become dangerously detached from reality. Most disabled people claiming PIP are not looking for a "handout". They are seeking support to meet the extra costs of disability and maintain independence. Misinformation harms real lives. #DisabilityRights #PIP #ChallengeTheNarrative

@billypilgrim333 PIP isn't an out-of-work benefit. People can work and claim it. Motability cars are leased, not gifted, and returned vehicles feed into the used-car market.
And if we're throwing figures around, look at the £446bn “Purple Pound” — the spending power of households with a disabled person.
Maybe stop asking what disabled people cost and start asking what inaccessible systems and lost economic participation cost us.
Remove barriers. Stop scapegoating disabled people. #PIP #DisabilityRights #PurplePound #DisabilityBenefits
