Indian football is facing one of its most uncertain phases in recent years.

And this uncertainty has little to do with performance on the field.

It is about 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲.

Several of 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀, including Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sandesh Jhingan, and Sunil Chhetri, have come together to raise the alarm about the state of Indian football.

In a recent video, they called on FIFA to intervene, citing the ongoing uncertainty around the 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗲 (ISL).

This matters because the 𝗜𝗦𝗟 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

It is the 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 in India.

Yet, this uncertainty has left players and clubs in limbo at a time when training should have already begun.

Players do not know whether their contracts will continue

Many have received 𝗻𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 or renewals

Clubs are unsure whether to 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲.

Transfers, scouting, and youth promotions remain stalled

For athletes in a sport like football, where 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, and highly time-sensitive, such prolonged uncertainty can be devastating.

What makes this even more troubling is the timing.

Less than a month ago, we celebrated global 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲.

And yet, here are our own players, left waiting for basic answers about their future.

This reflects something 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 has recently said:

“We are not poor. We are just poorly directed.

We don’t know the right direction to move in because we don’t know the right center to have.

That lack of direction shows up clearly in our 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

As individuals, we don’t know 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 or which issues to question.

And so does our politicians, they are, after all, a reflection of who we are as a society.

This is why any real change must begin with 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.

Until that happens, our players will continue fighting battles that should never have existed.

Minds who chased truth, not valuations.
Their currency was curiosity.
Their KPI was understanding.

Leaders, not of laboratories, but of trillion-dollar corporations.

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀, science quietly changed hands.

From seekers to shareholders.
From pure inquiry to product roadmaps.
From “What is reality?” to “What is monetisable?”

And the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 are visible everywhere:

Today, the world’s 3,028 billionaires hold more wealth than every country except the US and China.

The 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻 have doubled their fortunes since 2020, while the bottom 60% of the global population has become poorer.

📌 Meanwhile, 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 has been steadily declining.

The share of governments in scientific research and development is declining- the private sector dominates and prioritises commercial R&D.

This is what happens 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, and knowledge, instead of liberating, begins to deepen inequality.

𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 has often highlighted the root of this crisis: self-ignorance.

“Technology in the 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 will prove disastrous for everybody.

Technology alone doesn’t mean much, in fact, it becomes dangerous if we have no knowledge of who we are.

For real progress, we need both: knowledge of the world and knowledge of the one seeking that knowledge.

If the eye doesn’t turn inward, and if we don’t understand our own mental processes, we are bound to misuse that knowledge.

💥ये कहानी है एक असाधारण महिला की⛓️‍💥

जिसने परंपरा, समाज और क़ानून तीनों से टकराकर इतिहास रच दिया।

रुख्माबाई राउत की शादी 11 साल की उम्र में दादाजी भिकाजी से कर दी गई थी। लेकिन जब वह बड़ी हुईं, तो उन्होंने अपने “पति” के साथ रहने से साफ़ इनकार कर दिया। यही कदम उस दौर में विद्रोह माना गया। 1884 में दादाजी भिकाजी बनाम रुख्माबाई केस ने पूरे ब्रिटिश भारत में हलचल मचा दी क्या एक लड़की, जिसने बचपन में शादी की हो, उसे बड़े होने पर उसे अस्वीकार करने का हक़ है?

रुख्माबाई ने कहा हाँ। और अदालत में डटकर लड़ीं।

उनका केस “स्त्री की स्वतंत्र इच्छा” का प्रतीक बन गया। ब्रिटिश जज रॉबर्ट पिन्हे ने भी कहा कि किसी महिला को उसकी इच्छा के ख़िलाफ़ पति के पास भेजना “क्रूर और बर्बर” होगा। यह फैसला समाज के लिए झटका था। बाल गंगाधर तिलक जैसे राष्ट्रवादी नेताओं ने भी रुख्माबाई की आलोचना की, यह कहते हुए कि “पढ़ाई ने उसे बिगाड़ दिया है।”

आख़िरकार, लंबी कानूनी लड़ाई के बाद केस समझौते में खत्म हुआ — लेकिन उसने इतिहास बदल दिया। इसी संघर्ष के कुछ साल बाद “Age of Consent Act, 1891” बना, जिसने बाल विवाह की उम्र 10 से बढ़ाकर 12 साल कर दी।

रुख्माबाई ने समाज के विरोध के बावजूद इंग्लैंड जाकर डॉक्टरी पढ़ी और भारत की पहली महिला चिकित्सक बनीं।

लेखक सुदीर चंद्रा लिखते हैं कि रुख्माबाई “सत्याग्रह की भावना को तब जी चुकी थीं, जब सत्याग्रह का नाम तक नहीं था।”

उनकी कहानी यह दिखाती है कि बदलाव अक्सर वहीं से शुरू होता है l जहाँ से किसी को उम्मीद नहीं होती।

हमने आचार्य जी से समझा है - “अध्यात्म कहता है, जीवन का एक ही लक्ष्य है — बोध, मुक्ति। और दोनों एक ही चीज़ के दो नाम हैं। जीवन का लक्ष्य है मुक्ति। स्त्री हो या पुरुष, दोनों के जीवन का एक ही लक्ष्य है — मुक्ति तक पहुँचना। तो संस्कृति, सही संस्कृति, सत्संस्कृति वो होगी जो महिला और पुरुष दोनों को मुक्ति की ओर भेजेगी।”

“हमारी संस्कृति उत्थान माँग रही है। और संस्कृति के उत्थान की माँग सबसे ज़्यादा महिलाओं को करनी चाहिए। महिलाएँ सबसे आगे होनी चाहिए विरोध करने में कि यह पुरानी, सड़ी-गली संस्कृति अब नहीं चलेगी बाबा! हमें एक नई, सुधरी हुई, आध्यात्मिक संस्कृति चाहिए। हमें वेदांत आधारित संस्कृति चाहिए, हमें उच्चतर मूल्यों पर आधारित संस्कृति चाहिए। यह पुरानी, पिछड़ी हुई बातें, जिनका संबंध अशिक्षा से है, अज्ञान से है, मन की संकीर्णता से है, गरीबी से है, मानसिक दिवालियापन और राजनैतिक गुलामी से है, हमें यह संस्कृति नहीं चाहिए।”
