Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off.

The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.

The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals.

We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information.

Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident.

My foster son Sabir was 4 year old when I first met him. I was a morning show host doing a show on brick kilns. He was a tiny, orphaned, bonded labourer at a brick kiln in Punjab. His late parents owed 2.5 lacs to the brick factory owner.
A few weeks into meeting him, we put a case on the unregistered kiln and one sunny afternoon, Sabir came into our home and our life.

Today he has finished studying technical engineering and lives independently. He bought his motorbike year before last.
He completed his internship in Karachi this year. He has grown into one of the finest, most hardworking, patient, bright and wonderful men.
He will be applying for jobs soon. Alhamdolillah. But in the meantime he has started his own solar panel cleaning business.
He is an incredibly self made, god fearing, honest, and professional young man. I’m so deeply proud of him and grateful to Allah, for his success.
