50 years ago today, 19 Jun 1976 #Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley, citing violence orchestrated to undermine his Government, declared a State of Emergency. Six hundred people were detained, including leading political organisers and activists, who had to sit out the 15 Dec General Election. It lasted until 6 Jun 1977.
