Let me know your thoughts.
In July 2021 I started Microns. At that time, I didn't know much about marketplaces and how to launch a startup. I found that many founders struggled with selling their projects on Twitter. I thought why there's no dedicated place for such cool products. And that's how idea was born.
4 years ago I figured out that building a marketplace from scratch would cost me $50k+ and it was too early to invest such an amount for idea I haven't validated and wasn't pretty sure. So I started with building an audience and created a newsletter. It was the first early version of Microns. I sent weekly newsletter on Revue (closed by Twitter) with startups for sale and educational content that I found on Twitter or Indie Hackers.
In the first year, by building audience I found many great people. One of them helped me build MVP for as little as $5k. And it was a simple directory website where every founder could submit their project and after review it was published. In one month, I launched Microns on Product Hunt, at that time we had only 10 listings and around 100 email subscribers. I was at my vacation in Odessa and when we checked out of the hotel the launch started. I replied to all comments and posted on Twitter on the bus. My phone ran out of battery and my wife gave me her so I can continue the launch. We've got the 3rd place and it was my first launch. It gave us more than 500 subscribers, many new listings and a lot of press coverage. The Hustle and other media covered our project, we've got a bunch of new subscribers. I love that period. We started gaining traction.
For 9 months the directory was completely free. During this period we've got testimonials from happy founders who managed to sell their projects through Microns. They posted on Twitter and some of those posts were viral. For me, one of the biggest achievements is that our early sellers are still using the platform and it's already 4 years! I'm happy to see the same faces again and again.
In one year, I realised that the idea works and I want to make the project more sustainable. So I created a Premium plan for buyers. They subscribe to flow of startups that they receive before anyone else, plus revenue and traffic metrics. The subscription revenue gave us some resources for development. We created more features like watchlist, filters and detailed listing pages. Things were great until the war started. It was a mess and I was forced to move from my home to another safer city in Ukraine. It was super hard time because I didn't know what to do and whether I should close the project. In my reality, drones and rockets bombed cities and at the same time Stripe sent payment notifications. Seemed like two different worlds.
Hiding in the shelter I kept getting payments from Stripe and decided to continue the project. I had funds and I had a powerful motivation to prove that Microns will be stronger that ever. At that time, I prepared a new version of Microns with chat, offers and secure payments. But the previous developer told me honestly that he can't develop this functionality so he just left the project. In a few days, customer support manager told me that he found another project and wants to resign, so I left alone. Every challenge that came up my way made me stronger. I decided to build a local but remote Ukrainian team because of easier communication. And it was one of my best decisions.
I found young designer on TikTok, we talked a few hours and started working on the new version of Microns. It was a complete redesign with 50 pages. I wanted custom design that will reflect my values: quality, energy and feel of premium. We worked remotely and async using Loom for feedback sessions. Iterations were fast and to the point. In the parallel I started looking for developer on Upwork. I met a few devs, gave them a test task and chose the one that best fit my culture. He still works for Microns for two years. During a few months he was onboarded to our existing site for bug fixes and improvements until the new design was ready.
When we finished the design, long 12 months of development started, we've faced so many challenges but resolved them during that long way. Our stack is completely no-code to keep the development cost low but still for such project like Microns it was tens of thousands dollars (maybe already exceed $50k). All revenue was fully reinvested into the development. One thing that I regret at that time was that I haven't posted about it in public. Other than that I built the dream platform for our customers. And this major update, helped us achieve 50% YoY growth.
I launched on Product Hunt the second time and we've got the first place. It was a tough competition with two VC backed startups, we were at the 3rd place. Those competitors bought votes so PH penalised them and we ended up on the first place. Fully organic all traffic came from Microns email list and Twitter. Many founders loved the new version and provided valuable feedback for the future iterations.
2022 we closed with $28,117 in operating income.
2023 we closed with $40,440 in operating income.
2024 we closed with $58,403 in operating income.
In 2024 we started building offers to help founders close deals safely on the platform. I wanted to help buyers and sellers handle all parts of the acquisition like creating agreements, sending invoices, handling payments and asset transfer. Everything under one roof to make the life of founders easier. It took us 9 months to develop and we launched early in 2025. This feature unlocked additional revenue stream for us. And in June we already closed 9 acquisitions worth $45k.
I hope that 2025 will be a solid month for Microns. I'm sorry that I haven't show you all of these challenges and problems that were on my way. They made me and Microns stronger, without them it won't be possible to create what we have now. I'm grateful to my wife who supported my along the way. I'm grateful to my team who commits and not afraid about any issues. And I'm grateful to my audience and community of founders who keep using Microns on a daily basis. Without all of you it wouldn't be possible. Thank you and happy birthday Microns 🎉

🚀 Meet Ferhat, a 21-year-old founder from Turkey who sold his signup-free tools directory for $2.3K in just 2 weeks!
Despite spending $0 on marketing, his project gained traction through Hacker News and Reddit.
Now, he’s onto his next venture, Spinosis, to boost SaaS personalization.
Tonight in Uman', in the heart of Ukraine, Russians shelled another residential building while people were sleeping. Nine were killed, including a preschooler, and 15 were wounded.
The same night, in another city, Dnipro, a young woman and a 3-year-old child were killed in another Russian strike.
If all this murdering and terrorism is not enough to drive Russia out of everywhere and stop doing business with it, I swear, I don't know what else has to happen to Ukraine and its people for the rest of the world to take action.
