Samuel Crowther. Kidnapped at twelve. Thrown onto a slave ship. Bound for the Americas.

A British warship intercepted them. He was pulled from that ship. Given water. Given hope.

He learned to read. Studied. Excelled. Was ordained.

He became the first Black Anglican bishop.

He returned to Nigeria. In Lagos, the slave trade continued.

Crowther advised the British government. His words were clear: "Fire and force."

Britain listened. Lagos was bombarded. The slave-trading king removed. The captives freed.

Because a man who'd been in chains asked for it.
