At @PTI_News office New Delhi, an elderly lady Veena Madam (don't remember her surname) worked in accounts dept for nearly three decades before she retired sometime during COVID. Back in 2012-13. Whenever our paths crossed Veena ma'am would ask "Beta aap log Ranji cover nahi karte?" I would always say "Maam karte hai". and next thing she said: "Mera Bhateeja Paras itna runs banata hai, uska naam nahi aata?" The complaint was genuine as HP used to be confined to brief scores. Then Paras played for KKR or Punjab Kings and once won a fielding award for a superb diving catch. Next day Veena maam was beaming. "Did you see the catch Paras took?" Never met her after she retired but on Paras's biggest day, she should be one of the happiest persons.

तथाकथित नेशनल मीडिया देश की संवेदना से किस कदर अनजान व कटा हुआ है इसका प्रमाण यही है कि पूर्वोत्तर के इस शताब्दी के सबसे बड़े शोक से पूरी तरह बेख़बर मीडिया एक क्रिकेट मैच के महिमागान में जुटा हुआ है। दावे के साथ कह सकता हूँ कि मैंने अपने जीवन में किसी कलाकार के लिए यह पागलपन यह प्रेम नहीं देखा जैसा ज़ुबीन को लेकर आसाम और पूर्वोत्तर में है। दो दिन से एक पूरा प्रदेश ग़म में जैसे ठहर सा गया है, गलियाँ-सड़क-चौराहे भरे पड़े हैं उसके रोते-बिलखते चाहने वालों से। मुख्यमंत्री से लेकर गोद में शिशु लेकर रास्तों पर खड़ी माँएँ उसके गाने गा-गाकर रो रहीं हैं। लेकिन नेशनल मीडिया में किसी ने इस महान कलाकार के अपने लोगों से इस कदर जुड़ाव पर कोई विशेष कार्यकम नहीं किया। खैर ज़ुबीन का काम और नाम इन लोगों की आत्ममुग्धता से बहुत बड़ा है 💔🙏
