Social Security Pensions: Field Days
During a recent field visit to Heerapur Gram Panchayat in Raichur district, LibTech India team members spoke with social security pension beneficiaries, including elderly persons and widows.
Their experiences offered a glimpse into the different layers involved in accessing a pension: - from verification and payment processes to receiving the entitlement at the beneficiary’s end.
For people who rely on social security pensions, each of these layers can shape how easily and regularly they are able to access their entitlements.
At LibTech India, we engage with people at the last mile to understand these layers of welfare delivery and bring ground-level experiences into conversations around how public systems can work better for everyone.
For many elderly, persons with disabilities and rural pensioners in Karnataka, a pension credited to a bank account can still be several kilometres away.
Travel costs, lost wages, long waits, failed transactions and difficulties with authentication can reduce the real value of social security.
In this article from @thenewsminute , LibTech India team members Naveen Kumar Gajjalagari, Venkateswarlu Kuruva and @samalochana examine the last-mile challenges faced by pensioners in Karnataka and make the case for a standardised doorstep delivery system.
The article also looks at Andhra Pradesh’s doorstep pension delivery model and asks an important question: Should pensioners have to bear the burden of reaching the state’s money?

Glad to share LibTech India’s engagement with the International Centre for Information Systems and Audit (iCISA), the international training centre of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
ICISA trains public auditors from across the world on Audit of Information Systems and e-governance which include training on Digital Public Infrastructure and emerging technologies.
Its 2026–27 Information Brochure carries a reflection from our colleague @samalochana on Digital Public Infrastructure and digital social welfare systems, and the need to look at these systems through the lens of inclusion and accountability.
For us, these engagements are an opportunity to bring field evidence and community experiences into wider conversations on digital governance and public accountability.

Many thanks to @nitikafrancis@the_hindu for having a discussion with me on the impact on states/fiscal federalism as VB- GRAM G Act replaces MGNREGA. The move dilutes the constitutional promise of right to work.

.@kaul_vivek writes: Rising household debt is a cause for worry. Borrowing for housing is not growing but consumption loans are. The working young is living beyond their means—hoping that loans can be repaid from future incomes.

Education is a right, not a business.
Hardworking students are losing their future because of paper leaks, corruption, and inequality in the system.
The question is — Will merit decide success, or money and power?
#PaperLeak#EducationSystem#StudentsFuture#Corruption
NMMS didn’t eliminate corruption in #MGNREGA.
It restructured it.
From fake entries → to denied entries
From invisible leakages → to visible exclusion
Now, the biggest challenge isn’t just corruption—
it’s whether workers can even access their right to work.
A thoughtful piece by our colleagues @samalochana & @KuruvaKvs unpacks how these shifts are playing out on the ground.
If accountability comes at the cost of access, the system needs rethinking. @thewire_in@MoRD_GoI

As India moves towards a new employment framework to replace MGNREGA, such experiences are not isolated inconveniences but early warnings.

What do constitutional rights mean for Adivasi communities in practice?
The LibTech team joined as facilitators in a workshop in Andhra Pradesh, organized by the Laya organization—engaging in discussions on constitutional provisions, entitlements, and the ground-level challenges faced by Adivasi communities.

Workers wait for hours in extreme heat just to mark attendance through a digital system. Work is delayed, health is affected—eye irritation, watering, and stress are common. When systems ignore ground realities, they create hardship instead of support.

By prioritising control and surveillance over access and dignity, India’s digital welfare systems exclude many from basic rights to food, work, and education.

A digital mistake in a govt system =
❌ Blocked wages
❌ Endless office visits
❌ Travel costs
❌ Months of waiting
When frontline officials aren’t trained, the poorest citizens pay the price.
Technology must have human accountability. #DigitalIndia#Welfare#socialmedia#govt
