Tanzania's economy highlights - BOT report Dec.2025
1. Inflation : 3.4%, within the country's target range, despite increase in food prices of selected food products
2. The central bank rate maintained at 5.75% by BOT, important to continue boosting economic revovery
3. Credit to private sector increased by 18.1%, driven by increase in credit to mining sector (30.1%), trade (29.4%), and agriculture (27%). Personal loans remaining dominant at 35.8% of all loans offered by banks in TZ
4. The average banks lending rate was 15.27%, with deposit rate standing at 8.54%, with a spread of 5.51%
5. The national debt saw a slight increase of 0.4%, to USD 51.9 Billion, with external debt accounting for 69.7%
6. The domestic debt was TZS 38.36 Billion, mainly composed of T-Bonds, accounting for 86%. T-Bonds, mainly held by commercial banks (28.8%) and Pension funds (26.8%).
7. The FOREX reserves was USD 6.4 Billion, able to cover 4.9 months of imports
6. Total export of goods and services increased by 13.1%, to USD 17.56B, against imports of USD 17.76B.
