POLITICAL DYNASTY ANG UGAT NG DIKTADURYA. 54 years ago, dineklara ni Ferdinand Marcos Sr. ang Martial Law para paghariin ang iisang pamilya. He handpicked dynasties as his own cronies to sustain his authoritarian rule.

Ngayong 2026, naiipit na naman ang taumbayan sa awayan ng dalawang dynasties — ang walang katapusang bangayan ng mga Marcos at Duterte. Their political contest may soon bring back the dominance of one family. But it is not too late. We are not powerless.

Dapat isabatas na ng Kongreso ang Anti-Political Dynasty Law at itapon na sa basurahan ng kasaysayan ang mga dinastiyang nagluwal sa Martial Law.

We must never forget the lessons of our past. Never again, never forget. End political dynasties now.

Ikinagagalak natin itong balitang pagtanggal sa pangalan ni Amnesty International Secretary General and former UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial Killings Agnes Callamard sa derogatory system list ng Bureau of Immigration.

Her past inclusion in the BI's derogatory list is a vestige of Former President Rodrigo Duterte's attempts to shield himself from accountability for the thousands of human rights violations his regime committed. Sa pagtanggal sa pangalan ni Callamard sa listahan ng BI, nawa'y masabayan din ito ng dagdag proteksyon para sa ating mga human rights defenders, sa pagtanggol sa karapatang pantao ng bawat Pilipino, at pananagutan sa mga karumal-dumal na paglapastangan sa karapatang pantao.

Ilang taon ko nang pinapalagpas ang araw-araw na paninira at personal na pag-atake sa akin, online man o offline. Hindi na ito bago. Bilang public official, bahagi ng trabaho ang pagiging subject sa public scrutiny and criticism. Hindi rin dapat maging balat-sibuyas ang isang public official. Gaya nga ng kasabihan, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Pero may hangganan ang lahat.
Kamakailan, mas naging personal at mapanira ang mga pag-atake ng ilang online trolls laban sa akin. Mas nakababahala, ginagamit na nila ang aking medical condition upang ako ay ipahiya at gawing katatawanan.

Ang kapansanan ay hindi katatawanan. Hindi ito dapat gawing sandata upang laitin, hiyain, o i-dehumanize ang isang tao. Hindi tamang salaulain ang dignidad o halaga ng sinumang tao, may kapansan man o wala.

Bilang isang stroke survivor, hindi ko palalampasin ang ganitong pambabastos. I do this not just for myself but for all stroke survivors and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) who are subjected to similarly demeaning, degrading and dehumanizing language and attacks.

This serves as a warning to all online pages, influencers, and individuals who have published or amplified these materials. I am consulting with our lawyers on the appropriate legal action that may be taken against those responsible.

I will continue to welcome legitimate criticism and public scrutiny. But attacks that cross into harassment, humiliation, and discrimination will be dealt with accordingly. I will not remain silent.

Nakalulungkot at nakakabahala ang balita ng isang school shooting incident involving a minor sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the learners, teachers, and members of the school community affected by this horrific tragedy.

Nakababahala na tila nanonormalize na ang ganitong uri ng karahasan. Schools should be safe spaces for learning and creativity, not places for our kids to fear for their lives. I urge the national government and local authorities to immediately extend the necessary medical services and psychosocial support to the victims, survivors, and their families.

We must do more to protect our children and ensure that every learner can study in an environment that is safe, secure, and free from violence. Nanawagan ako sa ating colleagues sa Congress na agarang isabatas ang Child Safety Against Gun Violence Act upang mahigpit na mapigilan ang access ng mga menor de edad sa mga baril at matiyak na magiging gun-free zones ang ating mga paaralan.

As Congress deliberates the proposed 2027 National Budget, we must also ensure greater funding for mental health programs and psychosocial support for children and young people in tandem with strengthening prevention and early intervention programs that can address violence before it happens.

‘SAAN KA NAKAKITA NG JUDGE NA TINO-TROLL ONLINE ANG PROSECUTION’

Akbayan Party-list on Saturday, July 25, criticized Sen. Pia Cayetano over a Facebook video she posted a day earlier featuring House prosecutor Rep. Chel Diokno's exchange with her brother, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a statement on X, Akbayan alleged that the clip was a "spliced video" and accused Cayetano of misrepresenting the exchange.

"Ang abogadong may argumentong pilipit, sa spliced video kumakapit. Dahil nasoplak ni Akbayan Rep. Chel Diokno ang magkapatid na senator-judge, pilit nilang binabaluktot ang kwento. Ang sad, noh? Move on na po. Better luck next time. 'That's just how it is,'" the party said.

Akbayan also questioned Cayetano's conduct as a senator-judge, adding: "Pero ang mas nakakalungkot, ganito ang content ng isang senator-judge. Linyang-linya sa kampo ni Sara.”
