This on-screen marking (OSM) system is not something new, nor is it being implemented for the first time. CBSE had introduced OSM in 2014.
At that time, from a technical perspective, it was felt that continuing it immediately would not be feasible because of the existing infrastructure and setup.
However, we have reintroduced it this year: Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, @EduMinOfIndia on CBSE Class 12 evaluation issues
Today, Shri @sanjayjavin, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, briefed the media on the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and the student support measures introduced for Class XII Board Examinations 2026.
The briefing highlighted how the technology-enabled evaluation system is helping strengthen transparency, consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in the examination process, while ensuring that student concerns are addressed with empathy, sensitivity, and utmost care.
The Ministry of Education and CBSE are continuously reviewing processes and safeguards to uphold fairness and maintain the trust of students and parents.

CBSE has conducted the evaluation process for Class 12 Board Examinations 2026 through the improved On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
First piloted in 2014, the system has now been strengthened with enhanced scanning processes, rigorous quality checks, secure infrastructure and extensive teacher training to ensure smooth implementation. Widely used by universities and assessment institutions in India and abroad, OSM promotes greater accuracy, transparency and efficiency in the evaluation process while serving the best interests of students.

The On-Screen Marking (OSM) to evaluate CBSE Class XII Examination 2026 results is a digital evaluation system designed to improve accuracy, transparency and efficiency in the assessment of answer scripts. It enables scanned answer books to be evaluated online by trained examiners, ensuring consistency with the marking scheme and reducing human error in totalling and tabulation.
OSM strengthens objectivity in evaluation by focusing on conceptual understanding rather than just final answers.
