Asst. Professor @CDB_Illinois and @MCB_Illinois interested in Pol III transcription, ncRNA, cancer biology and genomics. Previously Stanford | Emory | Rochester
Check out our latest work on Pol III @MolecularCell! We explore genomic “breadcrumbs” of Pol III activity at protein-coding genes🤯Congrats Rajendra K C and to co-authors Ruiying, Sihang, and Simon @MCB_Illinois and Duncan Smith @NYUBiology

It’s well known that inflammation increases cancer risk, but how?
The answer: the epigenome "remembers" inflammation and primes stem cells for cancer.
Here is our paper: https://t.co/FcnkLdpiKZ
And a special shoutout to the lead author @snaga13
A 🧵
https://t.co/Oq9F8ee9dK First big Tucker lab paper! Everyone in the lab made an appearance on the author list:) So proud and grateful for our collaborators and to the editors/reviewers for helping us improve the manuscript.
My lab has been working for the past 15 years to develop a method to isolate specific genomic loci to identify its chromatin composition & protein interactome. Finally,… our superb physician/scientist Dr. Bercin Cenik @bkcenik did it and here it is https://t.co/f0vKe8pCFS Not only was she able to develop this method, which she calls TurboCAS, she was able to identify known & novel regulators of heat shock & Myc expression. Cannot wait to see what Bercin and TurboCAS will discover about the molecular basis of transcriptional regulation with great impact on clinic in the next few years! @NU_BMG_SQE@NUFeinbergMed@MolecularCell
We are excited to complete another Crispri screen targeting LncRNAs in monocytes. This time we are focusing on LncRNAs involved in promoting cell growth

🎉Excited to share our new preprint on Biorxiv 🥳
We uncover how RNA Polymerase III (Pol3) dynamically regulates tRNA transcription during heat shock (HS) stress!
So what did we find? 🧵

I’m thrilled to share this story from @Mendell_lab and Jan Erzberger labs, led by postdoc extraordinaire Xiaoqiang Zhu! We showed that in addition to their canonical decoding function, tRNAs play a key role in regulating mRNA stability during translation.

Being able to measure and quantify this in a facile way has been a holy grail of the tRNA/mol biol field...let's hope this method is easy to adopt..
Nanopore sequencing of intact aminoacylated tRNAs https://t.co/7eh3nywmog
🚨🚨🚨 Thrilled to share our newest study — identifying functional long noncoding RNAs using transcriptome-scale RNA-targeting CRISPR screens.
🔎🔎🔎
We hope this scalable approach will be helpful for folks who want to connect noncoding RNAs to phenotypes & diseases.
Excited to share our unexpected finding: piRNA pathway designed to protect the genome from invading nucleic acids created a population of selfish small RNAs that have perpetuated themselves for the past hundred million years of mammalian evolution. https://t.co/9Nm1iLfBug

@PDA_PhD@UofIllinois Thanks for sharing your exciting research (and news!) with us Paul, it was a fun event to have you back at @MCB_Illinois and to learn about your science and success!
Genome-wide analyses correlate nuclear speckle proximity with gene expression. We share our minireview discussing possible functional relationships between nuclear speckles and gene expression in both health and disease: https://t.co/csVBLeRCO3
Our single-cell, pan-cancer analysis of open chromatin in human cancers, done in collaboration with TCGA and the Chang and Corces labs (among others including Illumina), is out in Science today. Congrats to Laksshman Sundaram and all authors! https://t.co/4whYsPvqyN
We first saw evidence for this ~ 2019.
We were super surprised & skeptical.
After 5 years of quintuple cross-validation, we feel confident to share with the world.
Glad to see this story out! It has been a long road since I started working on this in 2016 but I think we have uncovered an interesting post-transcriptional mechanism regulating polyploidy in the liver.
Thanks for the opportunity and support @KalsotraLab@MCB_Illinois!
