I forgot to say why Peggy and Henry couldn’t make the reunion. They were on a cruise and out of the country at the time. Peggy and Henry did practically continuous cruising once Henry decided to retire from directing after he completed THE SINGING NUN (which starred my friend Debbie Reynolds) in 1966.

In fact, here’s a little backstory: Marilyn, when she was still Norma Jeane Baker, first met Earl in the summer of 1940 at his house in West Van Nuys, CA when she was dating Earl’s and my cousin Chuck Moran. She stayed in touch with the California Morans for the rest of her life. Chuck died in 1944 during the War, but I got to know the others at a Moran family reunion in August 1973, when I was 15. Earl, Chuck’s parents and one of Chuck’s sisters (Florence), as well as my Great-Aunt Winnie, all made the trip. Chuck’s other sister Jackie (better known as Dolores Moran Bogeaus) was ailing and couldn’t make the reunion, and neither could Earl’s daughter Peggy and her husband Henry Koster (who directed Marilyn in 1952 for the movie O. HENRY’S FULL HOUSE).
