Building in Public: Day 29/30 🔋

Long day. And I'll be honest . I'm a little disappointed I couldn't wrap this up the way I envisioned.

But today taught me something I won't forget:

A system matters more than motivation.

Motivation runs out. Energy runs out. Life gets in the way.

But when you have a structure, a process, a routine, a way of doing things, it carries you even when you can't carry yourself.

I didn't feel like showing up today. But the system did.

And that's enough.

Ngl, I didn't hit every target the way I planned. Life happened. Health happened. Days slipped.

But I'm still here. Still going. Still building.

There's something important about that. Showing up even when the plan didn't go to plan.

The 30 days aren't perfect. But they're real. And real beats perfect every time.

Honest update: I took a step back today due to some health stuff.

But here's the thing, I still found time to finish up the project. And it looks good. It's really good. 😄

Sometimes, life doesn't wait for your schedule. You just work with what you've got.

Resting when your body needs it isn't quitting. It's how you stay in the game long enough to finish.

The project is done. I'm proud of it.

Today was satisfying.

Picked the colors. Set the frames. And honestly? It's all starting to piece together.

There's a moment in every project where it stops looking like a work in progress and starts looking like something real. Today was that moment.

The dashboard is coming alive. The layout makes sense. The story is clear.

This is the part that makes all the messy middle worth it.

Today, we opened Power BI.

But before I touched a single visual
I grabbed my pen.

Because here's something I've learned: jumping straight into a tool without a plan is how you spend 2 hours rearranging charts and still end up with nothing useful.

So I wrote it down first.

What story is this dashboard supposed to tell?
Who's reading it?
What's the first thing their eyes should land on?
What do they need to walk away knowing?

Only after those questions were answered did I start thinking about layout.

Power BI is powerful. But a tool is only as good as the thinking behind it.

The plan is on paper. The layout is taking shape. The visuals are coming.

Day 24/30

Still on the project. And today the data humbled me.

We found an issue.

The formatting is a mess. Inconsistent entries, values that should match but don't, columns that clearly had more than one person or more than one mood filling them in.

And honestly? This is the part of data work nobody puts in their portfolio.

But it's the most real part.

Clean data is a myth. Every dataset has a story behind it, and sometimes that story is "we just typed whatever felt right at the time."

No shortcuts. No ignoring it and hoping the analysis holds up.

Dirty data gives dirty insights. And dirty insights help nobody.

Yesterday, I stared at the data and asked it questions.

Today? I went in.

And I'll be honest — there's something different about touching data when you already know what you're looking for.

It didn't feel like poking around in the dark. It felt like walking into a room and knowing exactly where the light switch was.

All those questions from Day 22, why this data, what's the client really after, what solution lives in here, they weren't just journaling. They were prep.

Today, the data started talking back.

It's still early. There is still a lot to uncover. But the foundation is there, and the direction is clear.

That's the thing about doing the thinking: first, when you finally touch the data, you move with purpose.

Building in Public: Day 22/30 🔋

Found a project today.

Didn't touch the data yet, though. Not even once.

Because the first thing I did was just... stare at it. Sit with it. Let the questions come naturally.

Why this data?
What am I actually looking for here?
What solution can this data give me?
And most importantly, what does the client actually want from this?

I grabbed a pen and started listing everything down before writing a single line of code or touching a single filter.

Honestly? That's the part nobody shows you.

Everybody posts the dashboard. Nobody talks about the 30 minutes of just asking, "Wait, what are we even solving here?"

But that's where the real work starts. Not in the tool. Not in the query. In the questions.

Data without direction is just noise. The right questions turn it into something useful.

Day 22 and I haven't touched the data yet, and I'm okay with that. 😅

Tomorrow we go in. 👀

Today's update is simple

I did not touch my laptop.

Took a 10K walk, threw on a podcast, and just vibed for a bit.

And honestly? That WAS the work.

I've noticed something about myself. My best ideas never come when I'm grinding at the screen. They come on walks. In the shower. Mid-podcast when I'm not even trying and when I'm speaking to my Father.

Rest isn't laziness. It's maintenance.

A rested brain works better than a stressed one.

If you're at the point where you're making small mistakes or you've stopped caring, that's not a productivity problem. That's a rest problem.

So today, I reset and sleep.
