I was going to write an article on why I believe the RTI should be amended to compel public officials to create an official social media account. This will make blocking someone on the said public account a violation of the RTI.

In the US for instance, the Supreme Court ruled in Lindke v. Freed (2024) that blocking someone could constitute a state action (a violation of constitutional rights) if;

A. The person who blocked someone had actual authority to speak on behalf of the State on a particular matter
B. The person who blocked someone purported to exercise that authority in the relevant posts.

For example, if a Minister blocks you on social media that can constitute state action (a violation of first amendment rights) since the minister is authorized to speak on behalf of government and if the account the minister blocked you on is used for official communications.

In addition to this, the US Supreme Court recommend that state officials should have social media account in their capacity as state officials which will be different from their personal accounts because “public official who fails to keep personal posts in a clearly designated personal account therefore exposes himself to greater potential liability”.

We need to rethink social media.

Then I scheduled a mandatory "strategy sync" for 4:15 PM.

I didn't tell him he couldn't go.

I just created a conflict between his love for his child and his desire to pay his mortgage.

He skipped the recital.

I cancelled the meeting at 4:20 PM because I "got busy."

He sat at his desk staring at a blank screen for an hour.

It wasn't about the meeting.

It was about establishing who really owns his time.

Spoiler: It isn't his daughter.
