With God’s help, I got to have another birthday on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was the first time since 1985 that I’ve not been able to carry the cross on my birthday. So, this one had to do for the day! Just a few days earlier, I got to have my gallbladder removed and a few other “patch up jobs” taken care of. With God’s help, all is well! God willing, I get to leave with my usual cross on Friday to walk in South America.

We pray. We plan. We step out in faith. But along the way, bad news finds us all. Just last night, we received one of those calls.

In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah lifted his eyes and saw the Lord, high and lifted up. The seraphim cried, "The whole earth is full of His glory!" All of it. Right now. Overflowing.

Fear caused the disciples to see a ghost instead of Jesus. Grief caused Mary to see a gardener instead of the risen Lord.

Bad news can keep us from seeing well, too. So let's lift our eyes beyond dead kings, storms, and tears, and behold Jesus. He's still on the throne. Still faithful. Still near.

Happy Easter! I pray that have a wonderful day remembering and celebrating Jesus’ resurrection!

How amazing! Jesus was DEAD! He was buried! He was gone!! And then... When I stop and really think about it - INCREDIBLE!! AMAZING! He’s alive! He lives! Not just a religion, philosophy or idea! Not even a faith or belief!! Not just in spirit! Flesh & blood! Eating fish & bread! “Touch my hands and feet! Touch my side!”

Living! Breathing! Speaking! He’s alive!!! Because He’s alive we will live with Him! Because He’s alive we can know Him - personally & intimately! And because He’s alive His glorious presence will go with us…even to the ends of the earth…even through the Valley of the Shadow of Death! And one day we’ll bow at His nail-scarred feet and look into His beautiful, glorious face!

Hallelujah! He’s ALIVE! Happy Resurrection Day!

I told this man about Jesus’ crucifixion, death, burial & resurrection. Then, as I shared about His ascension, that He was praying for us and would return he started looking up. Staring into the sky. Eventually, he looked at me and said, “I’m sorry. I can’t see Him.”

Oh, the beauty! Why have we complicated things so much? How have we moved so far away from such innocent, childlike faith? Jesus promised that “the pure in heart shall see God.”

Sometimes, we can become so fixated on open and closed doors that we forget about the One who is the Door.

In this new year of 2025, let’s walk together with Jesus, our door opener. Let's not become so focused on closed gates that we miss the open field around! Whatever we face, let’s move forward together with Jesus, our open Door!
