Late in every NFL season, there's usually a game that shows why public betting split data can be misleading.

HOU @ KC is the example this year.

Ahead of tomorrow’s game, we’ll likely see posts about 'X% on KC -3.5.'

The problem is that these percentages reflect all bets on the game, but they’re presented as if the game is being bet the way it is at the current line only. It rolls everything into now.

In reality, this game includes bets at prices up to KC +3, which is a totally different scenario.

Without a breakdown of how bets are distributed specifically at different lines, the data doesn’t offer any useful insight.
