For the FBI and its partners, preventing terrorist attacks is job #1 during the upcoming 2026 @FIFAWorldCup

Extremists have used major global sporting events in the past to do harm and spread their twisted ideologies. We are totally determined to head off any potential incidents and ensure the safety of players, fans, and all Americans and visitors during the tournament.

With 78 matches planned in 11 U.S. cities across 39 days, we are working nonstop to meet the challenge in concert with partner agencies such as @DHSgov and law enforcement at every level. This FBI is bringing to bear the full range of our counterterrorism expertise, crisis management, and other specialized resources honed over many decades and countless investigations.

Our approximately 200 multi-agency Joint Terrorism Task Forces across the nation and our 63 legal attaché offices overseas are fully engaged and assisting the government-wide security effort. Our bomb technicians will respond to calls about items such as suspicious packages, and our divers will search hulls for devices such as explosives and other hazards. Our experts are outfitting and staffing event operations centers, intelligence operations centers, and mobile command posts designed to stay on top of threats. We also have analysts performing thousands of background checks and examining and distributing numerous intelligence reports.
