Dear Minister, @MoWT_Uganda@HonByamukama
Thank you for convening the contractors. The only small concern is that, looking at the audience, one struggles to identify which country the meeting was intended to build.
We have become remarkably efficient at commissioning roads. We have been less successful at commissioning Ugandan road contractors.
Foreign contractors are not the problem. Every country needs international partners. The puzzle is why, after decades of infrastructure investment, Ugandan contractors still seem to attend these meetings as guests in an industry financed by Ugandan taxpayers.
Perhaps the measure of leadership is not how many kilometres of road are completed, but how many local companies graduate from subcontractors to prime contractors by the end of each project.
Otherwise, we risk celebrating completed roads while quietly renting the experience, the profits, the technology and the next generation of contractors.
The roads remain in Uganda. It would be nice if more of the industry did too.

Listen son;
Go to the gym,
Even if you’re tired.
Start that business,
Even if you’re poor.
Invest in education,
Even if you’re broke.
Approach that girl,
Even if you’re shy.
Do that work,
Even if you’re unmotivated.
You are a man.
Find a way to get things done.
Its been a while however get informed of the latest in my inventory: GRANA Cerial bite which is a high fibre nutritional dense bar that is easy to snack on, followed with a glass of water, subsequently get satisfied and have a cleansed colon. @drkasenene@bitekyerezomed1
It seems there is flue and stubborn cough around our dusty and dump areas. We should take opportunity os sunbathing as much as possible as well as embracing the bounties of nature in form of fruits.
I hate #indiscipline in boys. I can’t even tolerate it any minute. When a parent calls my office mbu they’re stuck with an indisciplined boy, I act so fast.
The other day, a parent called me at around 8pm. She was in deep tears 😭. It sounded like she was crying from her bedroom and guess what was the problem. She’d just been fighting with her 17 yr old son.
It started when the boy had been suspended from school for stealing Shs 270k from other students and breaking their suitcases. Cameras showed everything. After investigation school administrators decided to let him go.
She was called upon to go pick him up from school. When they reached home , as a single mom, she wanted to hear from the father what the next step would be. Father’s phone wasn’t reachable and her frustration built up.
That evening mbu she questioned the boy why he broke other people’s suitcases and stole their money. The boy instead of apologizing just locked himself in the bedroom and played loud music.
After 3 days , the mother gets another place in a school along Kayunga Road. She comes back home , tells the boy to prepare to join a new school. The boy says NO!! Mbu he doesn’t like that school”
Kati the mother out of built up anger gave a slap 👋 and asked the boy, what in the world are u saying u don’t like the school? In that moment the boy punched the mother, the mother increased the slaps and it became a serious brawl. Its young sister and the maid who shouted and the neighbors in the apartments came to separate the boy who was beating his mother.
She went and locked herself in a bedroom and started crying 😢. She called me. Mbu she got my number from Mwasuze Mutya in 2022. It was a terrible moment hearing her cry. I thought someone had died banange
We’re in a sad generation. We’re raising animals in our homes instead of raising real children!!
How can a child not fear their parent?
Your mom punishes u with a slap and instead of being apologetic, you punch them back??
How dare you, beat your own mother??
How dare you disrespect the woman who carried u 09 months?
How dare you!!
Without hesitation, we picked up the boy, gave him some serious chai then took him to police for the night. The following day I made sure I ship him to the farm were I had a construction sight.
I told him, since u don’t want to go to school, here’s a good chance for you to use your energy that u used to punch 🤛🏾 your mother. When ur done , we’ll think of taking u to school.
I assure u in those 3 weeks he spent with us at the farm, he learnt a lesson.
Our farm always has work and it’s serious work. We designed a strenuous routine for him that would make him prefer going to school than staying at the farm with us. The 5am 🕔 program, construction 🚧, fetching water , irrigating plants 🌱 all these made him rethink his actions.
Then we started talking to him about stealing. A thief belongs to the prison but sometimes he’s burnt on the road side.
In those 2 weeks, the young man wanted badly to go back to school but I kept saying no. The school you didn’t like is the school u badly wanted to join? Wait
This is why I say: boys must not be raised with soft hands. You crush them by being soft. I come from a traditional kind of parenting which says: a stitch in time save nine!!
I Don’t tolerate indiscipline in boys!! FIX IT immediately
A boy who’s indisciplined is a danger to himself, his family and the community at large!! He’ll end up prison!! FIX indiscipline. Don’t cover it up

Purpose to finish what you start.
In 2009 I travelled by Bus from Dar es Salam to Mbeya in Tanzania. This is quite a punishing 13 hour bus ride with only 20 minute lunch break in between. The journey takes you through 2 National Parks with a scintillating view of wildlife. On this occassion we spotted Giraffes, Buffalo and Elephants. Compared to Uganda Tanzania is a big country but in most parts it has only one season a year less than the two for Uganda.
What struck me as we moved deeper away from the capital, was the amount of unfinished houses by the roadside. They are quick to start building but many are also quick to abandon them.
@nssfug n Uganda found that 65% of the money they payout in retirement savings ends up in incomplete building projects!
When you start something and you don't finish it, you waste resources and locks up even the little you sank in. If it is a customers job it means you can not invoice and get paid. If it a house, it means you will have to continue renting. If it education, unless you finish the course, it will be useless to have studied 2/3 years.
Purpose to finish what you start or else do not start at all.
