"Virtual care is great but I do want us to still see the patient."
-Wah Cheung at #23ADC
Important to remember virtual inpatient care tools, certainly in #diabetes, are adjuncts to the clinician's role and do not (?can never) supplant it.
Lois Rowan, diabetes nurse practitioner at @TheRMH, describing her journey to working in inpatient diabetes at #23ADC.
A long journey but one the entire inpatient diabetes team is very glad she took!
Who else but @KyiMervyn of @TheRMH to chair an inpatient #diabetes session at #23ADC.
His first Australian model of care study to reduce glucose and infection (RAPIDS) is definitely the inspiration and impetus for most (?all) the inpatient diabetes work being done now.
Type1Screen’s A Prof John Wentworth was presented with the Jeff flack data award at the #23ADC . Delegates heard his presentations of @T1D_TrialNet#abatacept and #hydroxychloroquine trial outcomes. Congratulations John 👏

John Wentworth presenting on behalf of Tessa Glyn at #23ADC, findings from a nationwide survey on exercise in #T1D.
Appears that people with #T1D prefer sessional education and don't highly rate advice from clinicians, but clinicians feel they're well equipped to advise.
This is one study showing hospital-acquired infections can be decreased with better glycemic control a with proactive model of care. https://t.co/dWfpmrESF5
Excellent presentation by @RahulDBarmanray at #23ADC describing over 10% of inpatients who had glucose testing (~60% with preexisting diabetes) developed hospital-acquired infections. Work from @TheRMH
As hospital inpatient diabetes have demonstrated reduction in hospital acquired infections, there is a potential to decrease patient harm and decrease health care costs.
