We've been quiet for a while but we’re excited to introduce @friends_earth’s new catering accreditation scheme, #KaleYeahKitchens, encouraging chefs & caterers to help us meet #climategoals by serving less/better meat & more plant-based. Pls RT & follow.

Factory farmed chicken is terrible for 🌎 & 🐔.
➡ Soya imported for feed = deforestation.
➡ Nitrous oxide = global warming.
➡ Hydrogen sulfide & ammonia = pollution.
➡ Intensive confinement = disease & suffering.
Eating less meat must include eating less chicken‼

According to a Street Food Trends Report, street food is consumed by 2.5bn people worldwide each year, with the most significant growth among Generation Z, where 71% of diners like to try new dishes and flavours. It's perfectly suited to busy student life!
We must make this happen.
If Britain wants to lead the way in farmed animal welfare in a genuine, meaningful way, cages have to go.

The UK is failing to reduce emissions from farming and land. 👎
Policies have been set but a lack of action means emissions have remained flat since 2008. 😦 To change this we urgently need to move to regenerative agriculture and eat less meat.

@thefoodpeople@Eating_Better Many vegan sandwiches are not filling or satisfying and they are always more expensive than comparable meat/cheese options. The problem isn't vegan food, it's vegan food that's done badly and costs more. No wonder they don't sell!
Interesting article with conclusion from @OurWorldInData:
For the average household's diet, cutting out red meat & dairy for 1 day/week & replacing it with plant-based alternatives would cut carbon emissions as much as removing all food miles.

Cage systems confine, restrict, and prevent animals from expressing many of their essential, natural behaviours.
A clear timeline for consultations on cages for hens and pigs must now be set. Read our comment in @FarmersWeekly.

“Rather than finding ways to fly food even more quickly from one side of the world to the other, we should all be endeavouring to create a food system that nourishes the planet’s population and allows nature to recover.” – @Kath_Dalmeny from @UKSustain. https://t.co/vn6vK0f7vq
Interesting findings. V good that #plantbased sandwiches are on the rise and many more feature meat alternatives. But they are knocking vegetarian sarnies off shelves, not meaty ones, and that's not so good.
#eatlessmeat
Great to see our new Sandwiches Unwrapped report covered by @Independent. There's a 620% rise in alternative protein fillings and #FoodService out performs #FoodRetail in terms of offering more climate-friendly fillings: https://t.co/qvhkYp4P7N
Our 2022 #SandwichSurvey is here 🥪🥓🧀🥚🥒🍅
The survey shows that the sandwich aisle is still too meaty and #PlantBased sandwiches are too pricey. 84% of sandwiches available still contain meat, fish or cheese.

3 days of inspiring talks at the Menus of Change Leadership Summit. It was a packed room for Matt Tebbit of Reading Uni, the 1st uni in the UK to embrace the MoC principles & Chef Christopher Williams of Uni of N Texas, the 1st uni in the US to open a vegan dining hall. #CIAMOC
We're at the annual Menus of Change Leadership Summit, a collaboration between @CIACulinary + @HarvardChanSPH that connects culinary art, food technology, health and nutrition science to drive a global shift to "plant forward" eating 🌱 #CIAMOC
More than 1/4 of the people in the UK are considering reducing the amount of meat they eat - with health & climate change being given as the main motivations. For respondents under 34 yrs old, climate change was a strong motivator, at almost 50%. #lessmeat#climatechange
Winchester Uni is meeting many of the asks in our #BetterByHalf roadmap:
🌱Put more plants on menus
🍅 Develop a #LessAndBetter sourcing policy
🥦Normalise sustainable eating
🥙Make plant-based dishes appealing
🥕Improve access to fruit & veg

@ComedyCampbell If u enjoy cooking, check out vegan chefs & recipes eg @BOSHTV & @WickedHealthy.
If u don't enjoy cooking, buy things that are quick & easy to prepare eg Aldi's grains & pulses pouches (2 mins in microwave) + meat-free burgers, sausages, etc.
And hummus & peanut butter 😋🌱
