@ThisDoesNotComp Also, what do you use to clean old laptops? I usually use soap + water or 70% IPA on a paper towel.

@ThisDoesNotComp With your retro laptop collection, do most of the panels have minor scratches? Like not deep scratches you can see, but minor hairline-type scratches where you need to shine a light on it to see it.

Here's a picture of the marks. They didn't come off with a microfiber cloth so I think this is damage to the panel :/

Sucks that this was a brand-new panel and it's already sort of messed up. Oh well, it's a vintage laptop i guess

I'm asking because I have a T21, and I replaced the panel on it with a brand-new NOS panel. But there's already marks from the keyboard and a minor hairline scratch on the panel. I'm wondering if you have the same problem. I'm guessing hairline scratches are normal for laptops?

Got this IBM #ThinkPad T43p from 2005 for $50 today on Facebook Marketplace. It has the IPS 1600x1200 display, which is awesome. Yes I'll put Ubuntu on it

@ThisDoesNotComp Yup you're right, taking apart my PS2 and not one, but two plastic pieces broke off. It still goes together fine, but I just hate it so much, it triggers my OCD so much

@ThisDoesNotComp Do you have issues with broken plastic on stuff on your retro Sony gear? So do I. The plastic is so brittle it sucks. The eject switch for my Betamovie camcorder broke off and I had to epoxy it. (also one of the fuses blew)

It's good to know that I'm not alone.
