A bit underwhelming for the Sabres to use both picks. Figured they'd move at least one, especially the 20th pick. I'm sure more moves are coming, but figured their biggest trade chips would've been their picks tonight.
There's your Byram replacement for the Sabres. His minutes dipped a bit in Anaheim this season + he has work to do in his own zone, but Zellweger's puck-moving ability + offensive upside is worth betting on.
Olen Zellweger, acquired by BUF, is a smooth-skating offensive defenceman who jumps up in the play and carries the puck in transition. Has always had defensive issues (some stemming from his 5'10 size) but has unlocked new areas of his game with the puck in the past year.
The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Anton Wahlberg and a second-round pick (45th overall) in the 2026 NHL Draft.
I asked Tuch about how things played out at the end with #Sabres. He said he's "forever grateful" to have worn the sweater. He wanted to keep things private but he did reveal there was a last push in the last week that he really appreciated, but this is about more than money.
"Leaving Buffalo was one of the hardest decisions of my life," Alex Tuch says on Zoom.
Awkward weekend as he's with a lot of now former Sabres teammates at now former Sabres defenseman Bo Byram's wedding
