Just watched Robert Eggers’s The Witch for the umpteenth time, and feeling more impressed than ever by how skilfully he makes the idea of witchcraft seem plausible, likely even, as god- and devil-fearing 17C folk are gradually overwhelmed by anxiety, conflict and domestic chaos.
