Kids who receive good parenting go on to become mentally strong athletes. As a parent, you lay the foundation for your child’s mindset and character. If you want your children to succeed in sports and in life, you need to provide them with love, support, and discipline.
Athletes when you’re choosing representation , please make sure you have a real relationship with them beyond the business. This a cold business and if the relationship is strictly business once business isn’t going great that’s that, make sure they care about you the individual
2017 was the first time I had a coach come in and offer a few guys, then when we got to campus the Head Coach didn’t know who any of them were.
The head coach said to me “we haven’t offered any of those kids. But we will see what the weekend brings.
2015 was the first time a coach offered one of my kids, got him to cancel an official visit, and 48 hours later wouldn’t answer the phone.
I was still getting real mad at this point, I still believed in the relationship part, it hadn’t hit me yet how cold the business was.
Parents. Most likely your kid is not elite. He might be special to you, but in the world of potential collegiate and pro athletics, odds are he is not that special.
Slow down. Take a break. Love, encourage, support him every day but take your foot off the gas a little. Missing one tournament isn’t going to ruin his career.
