Too many parents swoop in to solve problems for their kids, trading short-term wins for long-term thriving. Try to be a Lighthouse Parent instead, argues Russell Shaw: https://t.co/5xWmcpNL57

Unpopular opinion: fidelity is way overrated.
When studies show low results researchers often blame low fidelity. Two problems with this:
1. Studies that track fidelity usually show lower results.
2. A good program should be easy to follow. If fidelity is difficult that’s a problem with the program.
Even worse, this focus on research fidelity makes teachers and schools think fidelity is important. Personally I’ve never taught a program with fidelity in my life. I don’t even teach my own language program with fidelity.
My advice for other teachers:
Don’t worry about fidelity. Worry about what works for your classroom.
Longest walk since loosing my vision.
I heard some interesting things from people while using my white cane.
Helpful: “Passing on your left.”
Also helpful: not saying anything.
Beige flag: “You’re so brave.” … uh no
Red flag … and just after passing me: “That poor guy.”

This is a cautionary tale. Throwing out one curriculum and swapping it in for a new one is not it. Leaders....are you listening?

Relearning how to walk has been a long, slow process. The first time I walked with a cane around the block, it took 30 min. Today, I did it in 11!!
Just checked google, they said it should take 3 😂
@triciaebarvia I’ve done it in NYC and put my luggage in a locker and took the subway. I also did it in Honolulu and rented a car for the day. Highly recommend. It’s great!!!
San Francisco gets a lot of hate. Yes we have had a lot of self-inflicted wounds of late, but it’s still one of the best cities in the world.
Why? Well after reading this NY Times article on SF I decide to take a photo 🧵 on why during my day off

@Teach_WA I’m a third grade public school teacher in California. I’d like to get more books into my students hands. Here’s my wishlist https://t.co/AyDRkjcKBS
This chart from a 5th grade class is so supportive and respectful of the different ways Ss can enter into a conversation. 💛 that it honors different entry points and can also be used as a tool to reflect on the type of talk we tend to do & set goals. @rbmsROCKETS#RBBisBIA
@mgpotente@SFUnified What’s your recommendation for a reading comprehension test? (Not advocating for BAS … more just interested in what’s out there. DIBELS is helpful with fluency, but doesn’t seem to give data on comprehension.)
