Of course, I explained the reason. On top of that, it never has appealed to me for some reason. When I was younger in Washington, Utah (St. George) pretty much everyone was a member, but, every weekend everyone was out drinking/smoking/etc. I would hang out with them, but simply was never interested in the drinking/smoking part of it.
But, it didn't feel awkward to not drink in that situation.
I was inactive for a long time later in life, and was heavily involved in the hard rock/heavy metal scene, but never got into that drinking/drug thing then either.
Didn't feel awkward then either.
But when I got my first job after school (in Japan) and my team/department/etc. would go out for dinner/karaoke together (which was often), I felt so bad. I felt like I was letting the team down by not fitting in better. I felt like I was ruining the team spirit.
In terms of senior men's freestyle wrestling:
Buvaisar Saitiev: Considered by many to be the GOAT of international freestyle wrestling, matching LeBron's multi-era longevity, tactical brilliance, and staggering accumulation of elite gold (3 Olympic golds, 6 World titles).
Jordan Burroughs: The quintessential standard-bearer of modern American freestyle. He captures LeBron's decade-plus run of continuous dominance and immense star power, backed by 9 total senior World and Olympic medals (6 World golds, 1 Olympic gold, and 3 World bronzes).
Abdulrashid Sadulaev: The physical inevitability pick. Much like a prime athletic force in team sports, the "Russian Tank" hit the senior scene with overwhelming momentum and anchored the pound-for-pound throne for nearly a decade. (2 Olympic golds, 6 World golds, and 1 World silver).
Aleksandr Medved: The ultimate multi-division iron man. He parallels LeBron's historical tier by dominating across completely different landscapesβcapturing three Olympic golds across three separate weight classes. (3 Olympic golds, 7 World golds, 1 World silver, and 1 World bronze).
Kyle Snyder: The modern generational anchor for Team USA at 97 kg. Similar to LeBron carrying heavy loads across sustained timelines, Snyder has been a constant fixture at the absolute peak of international wrestling since his teens, compiling 8 senior World and Olympic medals (1 Olympic gold, 1 Olympic silver, 4 World golds, 2 World silvers, and 2 World bronzes).
And, more to the point, we don't rely solely on past prophets. Records from antiquityβeven when recognized as sacred scriptureβare static by nature. They cannot directly address dynamic, modern situations any more than a yesterday's playbook can help a team make the right call on the field right now.
Just as players follow the current coaching staff rather than past or deceased ones, we look to living prophets and apostles for present guidance. Even newly canonized scripture, while vital, is secondary to the immediate, ongoing direction of current leadership. The Church is headed in an overarching direction, but navigating it often requires real-time adjustments that static texts alone cannot dictate. Only dynamic, continuing revelation can provide that guidance.
