I was raised on cereal, soda, bread, and candy. GenX's parents guided by the food pyramid and children begging for the box with the cartoons on it, from the bottom shelf of the cereal isle, just one aisle away from the tube of a chemical concoction of super-elastic bubble plastic for blowing bubbles right in front of your nose and Shrinky dinks - plastic you put in the oven that shrinks. It's amazing any of us are still alive. I still have a jart tip stuck in my cranium.

If your business model relies on illegal immigrants, you are not only breaking the law, your fucking over your business and legit employees when the other shoe drops. They are generally uninterested in people. I have been less than 20 feet away from some big ass moose in my trips up north to the BWCA. They are huge. Neither one could have given a rats ass about me. They just kept walking.

Just don't piss one off. Stay away when they are in the rut.

If you don’t know what Allostatic Load is, you should.

Stress compounds. The stuff you don’t deal with doesn’t disappear — it gets tossed onto the pile. And eventually the pile gets too heavy. Burnout. Snapping at people. Numbness. Exhaustion. Anxiety. Cynicism. Feeling like your nerves are plugged directly into a car battery.

Having been there, I can tell you: burnout often isn’t one giant thing. It’s 10,000 pounds of little things carried for too long without a reset.

Part of being human in modern life is learning how to lower the total load. Your employer can help, your family can help, your friends can help — but nobody can fully do it for you.

Sleep. Boundaries. Daily resets. Quiet. Exercise. Saying no sometimes. Not carrying every problem in the world at once. Not every text needs an immediate response. Not every disagreement needs to become a blood feud.

And honestly? A lot of the stress we carry is stress we create and spread to each other:

Doom scrolling. Gossip. Drama. Constant outrage. Road rage. Shame. Shaming. Bitterness. Cynicism. Grudges. Flying off the handle. Unrealistic expectations of ourselves and others. Taking our pain out on people around us. Keeping poison people in our lives. Constantly stirring the pot. Competing over who has it worse. Acting like being miserable is a personality.

None of this makes life lighter.

You matter. The people around you matter. And overloaded systems eventually fail — including human ones.
