Instead, there have been evidences of undercover police and intelligence personnel operating within protest movements, including the use of “agents provocateurs”. > undercover cops embedded in protests and pushing for more violence.

The bigger question is who benefits from the chaos?

In the Global South, Western governments and organisations are often funding/promoting and using protests and civil unrest to pressure or destabilise governments they oppose.

At home, the dynamic can be very different.

In the West > Protests and riots can be amplified, exploited or manipulated to create a greater sense of insecurity, fear and social tension.
And once people are afraid, the demand for more surveillance, more policing and more government control becomes much easier to justify.
Create chaos → create fear → offer more control as the solution.
