ABN - August 8, 2024
Q: Thalizwa par. Please tell me your name and residential address.
A: Aslamalaikum you all. My name is Nur Kaida. I live at Sikdar para in Maungdaw.
Q: We heard that you were locked up in Maungdaw. How did you manage to get out of there?
A. AA entered the town and took us out. They helped us to carry our goods and carried our children and managed safe passage with great care.
Q: How did AA rescue you?
A: They helped us carry our stuff and carried our children. We were asked not to be scared. They saved our lives, and ensured our security.
Q: What kind of difficulties have you faced during your travels?
A: When we got in the rough path, we were helped to walk on, we were covered up so that we were not to get hit by bombs. They carried our children with great care. Wounded and sick people were given medical treatment. They arranged for our safety and security. They keep us nicely.
Q: What did you feel during the time when you were locked up in Maungdaw?
A: Since ARSA entered the town, we could not go anywhere. They took away our young people. We were starving. They ordered our people to join ARSA. We had to eat food buying a kilo of rice at the price 10,000Kyat. If our community refused to give them our young people then they took away young people, they held our fathers and brothers and then they beaten up, tortured mercilessly at the gun point. They looted our money and fled leaving us in trouble. RSO forcibly took away our young people. AA did all their possible jobs to rescue us. We support AA.
Q: How did you feel when you arrived at the AA control area?
A: Now we don't have any problem. That's why we are grateful to AA. No one came forward to help us like AA who rescued us keeping their lives at risk. Rakhine people stood by our side.
Q: How many stranded people had been rescued by AA?
A: AA soldiers help to walk us to safety. They helped us a lot. Allah saved us. When we were on our way, they made us wait if needed to ensure our safety.
Q: What is the message you want to give ARSA?
A: In the process of ARSA and RSO united, Dil Mohammad was involved who was living in the military council battalion. Both the groups would come to our village with weapons. They forcibly would take away fathers and brothers and beaten up, torture. We have pictures as evidence. They told us that we drove away our young people to Bangladesh and not let them come back. They looted our money and tortured us.
Q: Was there any religious discrimination when AA carried out its rescue operation?
A: No, No, AA saved our lives.
Q: What message do you want to give AA?
A: AA is fighting for our country. We support AA. We want to live together with you maintaining communal harmony.

Regarding the Rakhine issue, the biased actions of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights will not contribute to resolving the ongoing Muslim refugee crisis and other difficulties in the Rakhine region, said AA spokesperson U Khaing Thu Kha.
"These biased actions cannot help solve the Muslim refugee crisis and other difficulties currently occurring in the Rakhine region," he said.
He also mentioned that due to the biased actions of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the trust of the Rakhine people in the High Commissioner's office could be significantly diminished.
"In the statement of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, there was no mention of the various crimes committed by Muslim extremist groups such as ARSA/RSO/ARA and the Muslim armed groups trained by the military council, including the unjust arrests, killings, kidnappings, extortion, sexual harassment of women, and using local civilians as human shields. Instead, there was a deliberate cover-up," he said.
"Therefore, there are many questions about the fairness and impartiality of the actions of the UN High Commissioner," said the AA spokesperson.
In the UNOHCHR's August 23 statement, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, mentioned that "due to the placement of civilians by AA in unsafe areas, thousands of Muslims had to flee on foot."
Additionally, the statement highlighted that both the military council and AA were responsible for the extrajudicial killings, beheadings, kidnappings, forced recruitment, and attacks with drones, artillery, and bombs against Muslims, accusing them of serious human rights violations.
Furthermore, Volker Turk said that both the military council and AA are responsible for the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians, including Muslims, and that attacks on civilians must be stopped immediately, and those displaced must be protected.
The Arakan Army (AA) had informed the residents of Maungdaw town on June 16 to evacuate to safer areas before launching an offensive on August 4, during which AA attacked Maungdaw town.
Reports indicate that AA has rescued over 20,000 civilians, mostly Muslims, who were trapped as human shields by the military council and armed Muslim groups in Maungdaw town since August 7.
The Arakan Army (AA) has provided these 20,000+ people with safe shelter, basic food, and medical care, as reported by AB News journalists.
AA announced on August 24 that they were close to fully capturing Maungdaw town.

We have learned that, on May 31, 2024, the Myanmar's military committed a heinous war crime in Byine Phyu village in Sittwe area in Arakan. This horrible crime is a brazen act of Myanmar's military on top of frequent bombings, shelling and burning of towns and villages committed by Myanmar's military occupying Arakan State.
