We had our termly Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Roundtable this week @UniofOxford -- a great conversation about neurodiversity drawing upon a range of perspectives. Lots of insight and inspiration, as we work to ensure Oxford is a place where everyone belongs

An #ADHD diagnosis can change lives, but it's a complex process. An insightful @Guardian long read by @jack_goulder about the challenges faced by doctors https://t.co/KaEbDcmpz8
Very thoughtful editorial by Philip Shaw (https://t.co/8Kj47GE5do) on our study on #brain functional correlates of #ADHD and #autism (https://t.co/dJyo7vpwhn) in the current issue of the American Journal of Psychiatry @APAPubJournals
@StarlightMcKenz@guardian I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. It's frustrating how little understanding there is about ADHD. I hope that with more awareness such situations will become less common. I'm so glad to hear that he's now medicated and that it's working well for him!
An interesting article in the @Guardian on #ADHD, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that incorporates education, environmental changes and specialist support alongside medication https://t.co/KUW1ySjFQh
@StarlightMcKenz@guardian By being aware of factors that can make a significant impact, parents of children with ADHD can experiment and see what works best for them and their child. As long as the conversation is framed appropriately, knowledge could be empowering and move things in a positive direction
@StarlightMcKenz@guardian Discriminating and blaming parents is unhelpful and unfair. In any case, no two children with ADHD are the same, and what works for one might not work for another. There is no single ideal routine or environment; completely different things might work for different people
@StarlightMcKenz@guardian The article offers a range of strategies that might help alongside (or in lieu of) medication, while recognising that every family's situation is unique
@StarlightMcKenz@guardian I don't think the article suggests that parents are deficient. The full sentence reads, 'The first step is education and information on how to cope', implying that these strategies might be relevant for families that are struggling and are looking for things that might help
Lovely to see that Dionysios @kyropoulos ideas have come to fruition and his doctoral thesis is now available from @UniofOxford. My article:
