The last world cup was the same, on the 2018 one by game 2,8 teams had no chance on passing to the next stage ( Egypt, Saudi Arabia,Marocco,Peru,Costa Rica,Tunisia,Panama,Poland ) . It's the same as before but it doesn't favor the bigs.

@RichScotford @GolDeGodin_ They lost , it's a tournament. Goal difference is not better. let's say you have Germany and one mid tier team on one group, they are tied for second place and won against them but Germany scored 7 against Curacao and passes as second is that fair ?
