I thought she was mocking me.
But there was nothing I could do.
So I grabbed a coffee and sat near the window, watching planes take off.

About 30 minutes later, airport staff started rushing toward my gate.
People were gathering.
Something was wrong.

The aircraft I was supposed to be on had been pulled from service after a maintenance issue was discovered just before departure.

Everyone was safe.
But the flight was canceled.

Passengers spent the next several hours rebooking hotels, finding new routes, and arguing with customer service.

As I stood in line for my replacement flight, I spotted the same gate agent.
She recognized me immediately.
“Still mad about those four minutes?” she asked.

I laughed.

She smiled and said:

“Sometimes missing a flight is better than making one.”

I never forgot that.
Because that day taught me something:
Not every closed door is a setback.
Sometimes it’s protection disguised as bad luck.
