[NEWS] Kim Oujoon, a prominent and influential South Korean journalist & political commentator who has shaped liberal political discourse in South Korea says "#BTS's Grammy withdrawal will remain a landmark in world cultural history for a long time."
"The Grammys see themselves as the most prestigious music awards with no fan-voting or even commercial success criteria, and yet they created a side door, just like MTV. This was basically saying, "Asia, come in through the side door. Separate but equal. The same logic that has normalized racial segregation in America for the past century."
"When MTV did this 7 years ago, BTS still attended despite the controversy. And after criticism, MTV nominated them in main categories outside 'Best K-pop'. But this time, in 2026, BTS said enough is enough and declared to the American mainstream music industry, "We're not using the side door anymore." And they refused."
"An artist from outside of America boycotted the supposedly most prestigious award in music and declared, "You are out of step with the times."

Forbes on why BTS' legacy extends far beyond the Grammys:
— “BTS's legacy was never created by a nomination. It was built through stadiums filled across continents, records broken across markets, and a global community that transformed the relationship between artists and audiences.”
Abc Australia news post 👀👀👀👀 Dammm one post by BTS set the world to go after scammys lfg🔥🔥🔥🔥👏
K-pop powerhouse BTS has sent shock waves through the music world by boycotting the upcoming Grammy awards.
It comes off the back of The Recording Academy's decision last month to introduce an Asian music category.
The move has prompted questions from fans and experts about the need for a separate category👀👀👀, given the widespread appeal of K-pop in particular.

Forbes on the Grammys' new “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category:
— “Nobody created a ‘Best European Pop Music Performance’ category for Dua Lipa or Ed Sheeran.”
Following BTS' decision about grammys, Nigerian media outlet YNaija urges artists of color to stand together:
"This is a time for solidarity among artists who are not from the U.S, to boycott the Grammys until their artistry is recognised beyond their continent."
Forbes talks about BTS legacy and the Grammys:
"BTS's legacy was never created by a nomination. It was built through stadiums filled across continents, records broken across markets, and a global community that transformed the relationship between artists and audiences."
Omg @Forbes went IN!!!!!! A few of my favorite quotes:
“music history is often made outside the room before the institution decides who belongs inside it.”
“Ultimately, BTS’s legacy was never created by a nomination. It was built through stadiums filled across continents, records broken across markets, and a global community that transformed the relationship between artists and audiences.”

"BTS doesn’t need a Grammy — they already have the world."-NJ Review
"The rejection of consideration for the Grammy award after the group returned from hiatus with a chart-topping album is a significant statement."-Times
The Category is BTS! 🤌🏽🔴🌟
Javier Paniagua, composer, producer & Grammy voting member, supports BTS's decision to skip the 2027 Grammys.
He said "BTS is the most relevant pop group and artist in the world today, and shouldn't be placed in a separate category based on their origin and language."
Ricky Kej, a three-time Grammy-winning Indian musician, on the Grammys' new “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category:
— “By creating geographically bounded categories like ‘Best Asian Pop’ or ‘Best African Music Performance,’ we aren’t fully integrating world music into the main stage and risk excluding diverse regions from the historically prestigious categories that carry the most weight.
Another fundamental issue is that ‘global diversity’ is still frequently viewed through an American-centric lens.”
BTS aren't standing alone because their objection lacks support. They're standing alone because institutional dissent requires enough autonomy to survive its consequences. Public agreement is one thing; risking access, recognition and career momentum is another.
The absence of collective action isn't evidence against their position. It's evidence of the cost of taking it.
