When Kawhi Leonard decided to leave the Toronto Raptors after the championship, I thought about it from every angle and no matter what I always ended up thinking it was the dumbest decision. My friends would say shit to me like, "well he just wanted to go home", every time they said it, I felt like I was losing my mind. An NBA season is like 8-9 months, half that time you're not "home". That Raptors team was insane. The way that management uniquely supported Kawhi and his situation was perfect. The kind of support he would have got from the city would have been unmatched. The probabilities of a repeat championship were so high. It was literally the dumbest decision ever for him to leave on every imaginable level.
And now, we're talking about bringing him back, 7 years later, and of course, he wants to sign an extension here, he's realized all the shit that was obvious to everyone here but clearly not obvious to him and whoever is advising him, but like, it's been 7 fucking years man. Can't help but think this time, resigning him is a bad decision for Toronto, but I guess we're going to see. I guess this is a moment where we figure out what Bobby Webster is really about.
