One of 4 regular IP65 downlights fitted in a soffit all have failed. Currently integral units. Replace all with another integral version or a can with GU10. In the future the lamp is easier to change but perhaps more often? Thoughts?
@nixonelectrical I hate twisted wires. I’m pretty old school - or rather just old and have never twisted wires. It tells me it wasn’t tested. I particularly hate FRC where the R2 is twisted at the board - testing needs it untwisted. Pisses me off and seen it on new boards so, not that old school
@marcel_germann@StemShow@marcel_germann a good solution for a clean connection but in the domestic house market there is limited space in the terminated wiring accessories and the aluminium cable is larger. The damage appears to be done where the terminations are made with little space for connectors.
@StemShow There’s a whole estate nearby wired in aluminium, I’m always asked what could be done to fix it and I’ve always said a rewire, since you can’t join to it (except with aluminium). It’s weird stuff, bends easily but too much and it cracks but not open circuit… but not safe.
@StemShow Exactly. The aluminium fractures clean making the perfect arc situation yet nothing in the regs. All readings were sporadic and the loop was difficult to resolve - ending up at 15ohms
@sparkypete_ Great to meet up today at Elex! Good chat about ‘old school’! Sorry for the senior moment went we first met! That’s old school too! If Chris’ @ElectricalJuice ears were burning today, he now knows why (all good Chris!)
@electrician_247 Good subject. Someone mentioned repairing rather than replacing, I’m seeing more hours, less products (excepting outdoor lighting). When times are tough, people shop around and may not use the same wholesaler. I like to support them but when quotes are £100’s more, I switch.
