In a heartwarming act of compassion, the town of Scarborough, England, chose to cancel its New Year’s Eve fireworks in 2022 for a very special reason ~ Thor, the Arctic walrus. Thor had been spotted resting in the town’s harbor on December 30, drawing attention and admiration from locals and animal lovers. Concerned about his well-being, wildlife experts warned that loud fireworks could cause him stress or harm.

Instead of going ahead with the usual celebrations, the town prioritized kindness and called off the fireworks to let Thor rest peacefully. The decision received global praise, with many calling it a shining example of how human actions can positively impact wildlife.

After a calm and undisturbed stay, Thor safely continued his journey and was later seen in Iceland.

This touching story reminds us that sometimes, choosing empathy over entertainment can make all the difference.
