In their recent Perspective in our Field Stations in Experimental Biology Research series, Somanathan & co call for a network of field stations throughout India to better understand the biology of the organisms that inhabit the country's diverse ecosystems

Based on our experience and conversation with ecologist in India we wrote an article on establishing a network of field stations with research infrastructure.
We hope, policy makers of Indian ecology & science infrastructure funding will take action towards this. @J_Exp_Biol

We organised @nsab2025 last year & had two journal partners: @jwls_in and Integrative & Comparative Biology. The special issues for both are underway:

Keep an eye out for some exciting avian biology research frm India <3
The Tribune story covering the fascinating work by our colleague Dr. Manjari Jain on how crickets communicate. This is all about turning a noisy cocktail into a meaningful tale!

New paper from @lab_behavioural published in @BehavEcol We @irichasingh@s1ngu1ar1ty show how male crickets calling in conspecific choruses solve the cocktail party problem using a combo of natural spacing b/w neighbours & behavioural adjustments in call timing. 2025 ends well 🍾
The 10th edition of @lab_behavioural Salim Ali Bird Walk. We introduced bird watching to first time birders. 42 species of birds in 2 hours at @IiserMohali campus along with a rather condescending Indian Scops-owl. Will miss birding with you @dgs_gaurav ❣️

Conservation initiatives need to go beyond charismatic sp.
Watch: The life and legacy of crickets; Prof. Rohini Balakrishnan @CES_IISc@iiscbangalore
What is cool about crickets?
Why it is important to worry about the ongoing #InsectApocalypse?

At the beautiful @GauhatiUniv campus for a faculty development workshop organised by Prof. Malabika Saikia & Dr. Kuladeep Sarma.
We learned about how to measure behaviour, analyse acoustic signals, choose appropriate statistical models & animal models.
#ScienceIsForEveryone
In midst of the ongoing push for electric vehicles, we @BaheerathanM & @oliverlindecke reviewed the effect of noise on bats & if EV is quieter & better for animals?

Surprise 😬
There is sound of silence!
Our work is out on @biorxivpreprint today.

Today Bahee @BaheerathanM wrapped up his work in @lab_behavioural
It was grt to have him around to mentor students, teach us about bats while we shared some #BirdLove with you, work on papers/grants & for keeping peace in lab. Here's wishing you the best for new adventures 🦇
Gave a talk at @iiscbangalore on @CES_IISc 42nd bday on 28/06. My 1st talk in faculty hall was as a PhD student in 2008 for CES's 25 anniv. Returning here as a faculty felt grt. Met old frnds, mentors & many @IiserMohali students who have passed thru @lab_behavioural
