Thrilled to announce our group's latest paper in @J_A_C_S: Semisynthesis of Isomerized Histone H4 Reveals Robustness and Vulnerability of Chromatin toward Molecular Aging | Journal of the American Chemical Society https://t.co/DYm9lpbhTU
We chemically synthesized old histones containing an isoAspartate residue to measure the impact of aging on chromatin integrity. We found that chromatin is surprisingly tolerant of this particular form of wear-and-tear, although local perturbations were observed.
I have an AstraZeneca-funded PhD position available (4 years), based in my lab (School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham); start date Oct 2025!

@Jeannine__Hess Exciting joint PhD project availble with @Jeannine__Hess at the interface of biomedicinal chemistry and chemical biology through @The_MRC DTP. https://t.co/XafQaNICFw…
Come and join my group @TheCrick - we have a PhD https://t.co/sgs0HAccNJ in metal-peptidic cages and high affinity binders, and will advertise a 3 year PDRA in December for a Chemical Biologist with synthetic and cell work experience. Email if interested, retweets appreciated!
Thrilled to highlight our work on chemoenzymatic protein modification, recently published in @J_A_C_S :
Kinetic Resolution of Epimeric Proteins Enables Stereoselective Chemical Mutagenesis | Journal of the American Chemical Society (https://t.co/IZ2sS6i4m6)
@J_A_C_S Led by PhD student Guljannat, we introduced a kinetic resolution step to dehydroalanine chemistry. By cleaving the D-amino acid-containing isomer with a D-peptidase, we combine the stereoselectivity of enzymes with the broad scope of chemo-selective Dha functionalisation.
A new scholarship is available to next year's MRes Chemistry students - apply by 31 August.
The Mackenzie Family Scholarship established in the memory of Mr F.H. Mackenzie is a prestigious award covering a £22,000 stipend ⚗️
