Excited to launch Webmunk, a new tool for studying digital platforms and online behavior!
Webmunk is a browser extension package that allows for:
- Tracking user behavior.
- Experimental interventions that change websites as people browse them.
- Survey and other types of tasks.
Although much of human morality evolved in an environment of small group living, almost 6 billion people use the internet in the modern era.
We argue that the technological transformation has created an entirely new ecosystem that is often mismatched with our evolved adaptations for social living.
We discuss how evolved responses to moral transgressions, such as compassion for victims of transgressions and punishment of transgressors, are disrupted by two main features of the online context.
1) the scale of the internet exposes us to an unnaturally large quantity of extreme moral content, causing compassion fatigue and increasing public shaming.
2) the physical and psychological distance between moral actors online can lead to ineffective collective action and virtue signaling.

Did a paper about the value of open science practices like preregistration--whose author list includes some high profile open science advocates--really fib about the status of its own preregistration?
It sure looks that way.

Have you watched "The Prevalence of Replications in Psychology"?
Beth Clarke shares the result of their analysis.
What's our replication ratio? It's 0.2%. No, not 20%, not 2%, it's 1/5 of a percent. 0.2%. 1 in 500 gets replicated.

Demand characteristics have always baffled me.
They're considered a fundamental methodological issue. They're poorly understood. And they’re very difficult to convincingly rule out.
This article explains the mystery better than I have ever been able to. Great write up!
Young behavioral scientists: do you disagree with another young scientist about an empirical issue?
U. Penn is offering grants ($5k-$20k) to grad students & post-docs interested in collecting data for adversarial collaborations.

I wish I could say that I'm surprised.
Back in 2019, I overviewed the research on dishonesty in my Bachelor's thesis. Although I would never suggest fraud, there was plenty of evidence of questionable research practices.
Let me show what I found:

Věda je společně se vzděláváním jednou z nejlepších možných investic veřejného rozpočtu. Její dlouhodobá návratnost by neměla být důvodem k takto výrazným a nerozvážným škrtům.
Twitter-less Eric Luis Uhlmann asked me to forward an invitation for next “replication ring” project on Priming.

Moral Foundations Theory has been extensively studied in the Western world, but we wanted to understand how it applies in #Kenya, #Uganda & #Tanzania. While the theory posits 5 moral foundations, our work revealed a crucial 6th pillar. Read about it here: https://t.co/BG8Okcdeud
