Dear @wa_status, @WhatsApp Team,
First of all, I would like to appreciate the effort your team puts into improving the platform. The introduction of usernames is a welcome feature, and I understand how useful it can be for privacy and making it easier for people to connect without sharing phone numbers.
That said, I believe there is another area that deserves much more attention: the quality of photos and videos uploaded to WhatsApp Status.
For a platform used by billions of people every day, it's disappointing that media uploaded to Status often loses so much quality after compression. Many of us have to rely on third-party apps just to preserve the original quality of our photos before posting them. That shouldn't be necessary. Users should be able to upload high-quality content directly from WhatsApp without having to look for external solutions.
This becomes even more frustrating for those of us who subscribe to WhatsApp Premium or other paid Meta services. While new features like usernames are appreciated, improvements to the overall user experience especially media quality would have a much greater impact on how people use the app every day.
I sincerely hope your team considers adding an option to upload Status updates in full or high definition, similar to what is available for sending HD photos in chats. Giving users control over upload quality would greatly improve the experience and eliminate the need for unnecessary workarounds.
Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback. I hope future updates will focus not only on introducing new features but also on improving core aspects of the app that millions of users rely on daily.
Kind regards,
A concerned WhatsApp user.
your phone number is personal and sometimes you want to connect without handing it over. that's why we're introducing usernames for WhatsApp.
starting this week, you can reserve a username to use later this year when we launch the feature. It takes just a few seconds, make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp and then go to Settings > Account > Username.
