Iranian security forces have confiscated the body of 16-year-old Armita Geravand, who was beaten to death by the morality police for showing her hair in public.

The family was banned from burying her in her hometown.

This is one of the articles we keep going back too. We need to remember fatality data underplays what's actually happening.

This man spent two months in hospital following a dog attack last year. His left arm was amputated. He suffered extreme injuries. His recollection was the dog was an "XXL Bully crossed with Mastiff." Chunks were taken from his leg.

For every fatality, there are dozens of close calls. What critics like @beverleycuddy fail to provide, is an effective and short-term alternative to banning which can deal with the immediate problem.

If you're not asking for mandatory muzzling and leashing (the current banning criteria), how do you propose to vet 100,000 owners to make sure they're responsible? Or better yet - 10 million+ since you'd ideally like an approach which is breed neutral?

Everyone is in agreement that long-term reform is needed, but there are no easy options to ensure public safety in the short term. Any option will involve dogs being seized. The brutal truth is that banning/restrictions is far easier than having to sift through millions of owners to see if they're suitable.
