Apply to work with me in the Smart Sensing lab on this exciting PhD project:
This project aims to develop a platform for always-on decentralised collaborative learning in resource-constrained environments, leveraging low-cost, low-power MCUs with intermittent wireless connectivity. The research will focus on creating distributed learning models optimized for devices with limited computational resources, designing lightweight communication protocols—such as gossip protocols—to enable robust data exchange, and implementing clustering techniques to enhance efficiency by grouping nodes based on proximity or task relevance.
Model aggregation strategies and convergence analysis will involve both theoretical proofs and empirical evaluations to guarantee that distributed algorithms reliably reach optimal or near-optimal solutions.
The system's performance will be rigorously evaluated on the TagWithMe platform (https://t.co/rE1kk9aASV), which integrates mobile, edge, and wearable devices to promote physical activity in green spaces.

Watch out for our upcoming #tinyML UK event in Cambridge Sept 2024.
Always a pleasure to meet the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council @EPSRC ICT team, especially when they visit us in #Nottingham and learn about the wonderful work carried out by our department and research groups. I thoroughly enjoyed discussing with the Head of ICT and the AI & ICT portfolio managers and Bryan Jones the work we do in my lab on #AI and #hardware towards low-cost, low-energy #EfficientAI on #tinyML (#AI on the Edge) to democratise AI and make it available to users. Our strength lies in cultivating and nurturing local talent to solve real-world problems faced by our communities.

A new #ACM#Interactions paper is out covering a fun project MEMO (Mass Extinction Monitoring Observatory) at @isleofportland that aims to use #technology to engage local and international communities in understanding #biodiversity loss. The technology developed at the Smart Sensing Lab @LabSensing in collaboration with @JennyWustenberg (#MemoryStudies expert) enables young people and school children to draw and submit their #fossil inscriptions to raise awareness.
The project helps to build relationships between people and the natural world through an immersive experience in a subterranean labyrinth of mine tunnels that are the results of excavating the same Portland stone that was used to construct St.Paul’s Cathedral in London and the cladding on the UN Headquarters in New York City.
