An ardent supporter of the death penalty and a fearless advocate for crime victims @akahancrimesto1 with @CrimeStopHOU says Robert Roberson needs a new trial!
“A new trial is the only way to ensure Nikki’s case is fully understood. Her story is honored and her death leads to better protection for children. Executing in the face of doubt does the opposite. It silences questions. It undermines trust and it leaves Nikki’s case as a warning sign of injustice instead of a catalyst for reform.”
I enjoyed being with the Harris County Delegation at the One Party • One Mission event supporting my campaign hosted by Governor @GregAbbott_TX and Speaker @Burrows4TX . Thank you Governor Abbott and Speaker Burrows, we so appreciate you coming to Houston! Great evening working together to keep Texas strong!
Houston is expecting rain over the next two days, as Tropical Storm Edouard approaches the Texas Coast. A flood watch is currently in place until tomorrow morning. This week the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Broadband met to discuss the Broadband Development Office and the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment Program as well as pole attachments that impact broadband service and infrastructure. I appreciate the testimony we heard and look forward to continuing these conversations centered around bettering the lives of Texans across the state!
🚨TAXPAYER ALERT ⚠️ Harris County Commissioners Court is considering the 2nd largest property tax increase in county history! My office released the homestead calculations: an avg of $403,000 homestead pays $188 or $220 MORE per year (8.7% or 10.1%), depending on what @LinaHidalgoTX@RodneyEllis@AdrianGarciaHTX@HCP4__Briones Vote FOR! Either a 5 or 6 penny rate HIKE, and only @TomSRamsey2 is voting NO!
👀HERE'S THE KICKER: The largest ever Harris County Property Tax increase occurred in 2024, at $312/yr, so add just the smaller # $188/yr in 2026 to that and that's $500/yr of baked in County budget cost and leftist progressive overspending into your home's property tax bill.
Oh, appraisal increases only account for just 2% of the hike, it's the 👀 popping brutal 5 or 6 penny voted tax rate increase, slamming homeowners AND businesses alike! See presser:
Today, the House State Affairs Committee met to discuss issues for Texans across the state. Thank you to Chairman Ken King for organizing an environment for Texans to let their voices be heard. I appreciate his leadership, and my fellow committee members for their attention to these important issues. I look forward to continuing these conversations in the 90th Legislative Session.
I’d love for you to join me tomorrow evening at my fundraiser for my re-election to be your State Representative!
I’m honored to be joined by Governor Greg Abbott and Speaker Dustin Burrows for this special evening, with many members of Houston’s delegation also in attendance.

Last week, the Sunset Advisory Commission held its first meeting ahead of the 90th Legislative Session. I am honored that Speaker Burrows re-appointed me to the Commission and trusted me to serve as Vice Chair for this cycle. The Sunset Advisory Commission is the state’s auditing agency, which reviews state agencies every twelve years to ensure all agencies are running as efficiently as possible.
A third of the state’s budget is up for review this cycle, with many agencies falling under the jurisdiction of the Human Services Committee, which I serve as Chair.
Our meeting last week focused on the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Workforce Investment Council and Purchasing from People with Disabilities Program. During our five-hour hearing, we discussed the nine issues uncovered in the Sunset Staff Report and discussed recommendations to increase success and support. I appreciated the dialogue of commission members, Sunset staff, TWC, TWIC and PPDP staff, as well as the public who shared testimony. I am looking forward to seeing improvements implemented to these agencies to ensure efficiency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility to better serve Texas.
I am thankful to work alongside Senator Lois Kolkhorst who is serving as Chair, and my fellow House members, Representatives Matt Shaheen, Charles Cunningham, Donna Howard, Angelia Orr, and House Public member, Mont McLendon; as well as Senators Donna Campbell, Bryan Hughes, Kevin Sparks, Cesar Blanco, and Senate Public Member, Stacey Combest. It is no easy feat auditing and reviewing a third of the state's budget, and I appreciate the work of the Sunset staff for their tireless work for Texas through this process.
Our next meeting will be held in November where the report heard last week will be voted on to adopt the recommendations. The hearing is archived and available for viewing on the Sunset Advisory Commission website, as well as the reports that were discussed.
I am looking forward to being a part of the hard work of this Commission and uncovering ways the great State of Texas can best serve Texans through these agencies!
The Texas House has made major strides in expanding access to healthcare for Texans, and today I issued additional interim charges focused on the unique healthcare needs of women and families.
By taking a comprehensive approach to women’s healthcare, we are empowering Texas women with greater access to the resources and care they need for healthier lives and stronger families.
As part of these charges, I’ve asked Public Health Committee Chairman @GaryVanDeaver to appoint a new Subcommittee on Maternal Health, Menopause and Access to Evidence-Based Medicine, chaired by @KatrinaPierson and including @VoteLizCampos and @joannefortexans.
I’m grateful for their leadership and commitment to advocating for Texas families, and I look forward to working together on this important topic next session. #txlege

I'm excited to announce my nominee for this year's Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP), Leonardo Lopez-Manteca. Leo grew up here in Houston, helping out at the family's restaurant. He currently attends Texas A&M, where he studies chemical engineering. Leo is a Sergeant Major in the Corps of Cadets, marching in the Fighting Texas Aggie Band, and plays the saxophone. After graduation, he will serve as an officer in the Navy. Congratulations Leo, and we wish you all the best!
Yesterday, my office attended the Getting to Know Spring Branch event hosted by @MAMHouston . It was great to see so many familiar faces, as our local organizations joined with community members to talk about resources in Spring Branch, ways to volunteer, and how the community can be more involved.
RFK Jr. says the days of hospitals price gouging patients are over.
Hospitals that continue hiding prices from patients could face fines of up to $2 million.
“In June, Dr. Oz and I announced that CMS identified more than 500 hospitals that were not compliant with the Trump administration’s orders on price transparency.”
“If those hospitals continue to hide prices from patients, HHS will impose every penalty under the law, including up to $2 million for large hospitals.”
“The days of hiding prices from American patients are coming to an end.”
“Our goal is simple: give Americans the ability to shop for care.”
“Where they can compare prices and make informed decisions before they even walk into a hospital.”
