He was going to play for the University of Utah. He had committed there out of high school.

Then he left for two years to serve a mission.

While he was gone, BYU hired a new head coach named Kalani Sitake. When he came home, he flipped.

He arrived in Provo in 2017 as a three-star recruit. Nobody's prize.
​
Fifty games as a Cougar. Thirty-two starts. A senior season on an 11-1 team.
​
He landed on the watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski and the Outland — the awards for the best defensive player and the best interior lineman in America.
​
After a forty-five-tackle junior year, he was told he could turn pro. He came back for his senior season instead.
​
Then came the draft. Round after round. Two hundred forty-nine names called before his.
​
On the 250th pick, Chicago finally took him.
​
He made the roster and played fifteen games as a rookie. Then the coaching staff changed, and he was released before his second season.
​
Atlanta's practice squad. Briefly.
​
He is a nose tackle. Six foot two, three hundred thirty-five pounds. The job is to absorb two blockers so somebody else can make the tackle.

It is the least glamorous assignment on a football field, and the most thankless.

Then Minnesota for parts of two seasons. Then a single year in Arizona. Then a one-year deal in New England.

Five NFL seasons. Five NFL teams.

And in February of 2026 he walked onto the field at Levi's Stadium for Super Bowl LX.

Asked about the road, he said he was "appreciative of all the coaches who gave me a shot."

This offseason, Kansas City signed him. Three years. Twenty-one million dollars.
