He finished dinner in thirty seconds. Every night.
I thought he was greedy. He was bored β the bowl is the easiest puzzle on earth.
Tonight the same kibble went on the rug. Sniffing is slow work. Same food, same cost, a meal instead of a swallow.
The walk was never for his legs. It's for his nose.
Every lamppost is a newspaper β who passed, when, how they felt. A slow sniff-walk settles him more than a fast march ever will, and most of us drag him straight past the front page.
So don't march. Let him read β the whole fix is ten minutes long.
Will you try it on tonight's walk? πΎ
Your dog isn't barking at the window because he's stubborn.
He's barking because it works. The mailman always leaves. From where your dog is standing, the bark is what made that happen.
You're not fighting a bad habit. You're fighting a paycheck. π
Your dog isn't starving. He's bored.
Thirty seconds and the bowl is empty β because a bowl is the easiest puzzle on earth. He was built to work for his dinner, and we handed him a solved problem.
The fix isn't a slower bowl. It's a harder dinner β same kibble, more work, no extra cost.
Will you try it tonight? πΎ
Unpopular puppy-biting advice: stop saying βno.β
If your reaction is exciting, it can become part of the game. Hard teeth need a boring result: play pauses. Gentle mouth keeps play going. Then redirect to a toy.
Would you try this for 3 daysβyes or no?
Somewhere around eight months, your trained puppy will look you dead in the eye β and pretend he's never heard the word "come."
Congratulations: you own a teenager.
Adolescence is real (hormones, brain remodeling, boundary-testing) and it's where most dogs get surrendered β right before it ends. The dog isn't broken. The phase is loud.
Through Adolescence, in Laeli: keep the skills alive, protect the relationship, wait out the storm ON PURPOSE.
The dog on the other side is the one you were promised. Don't quit at the trailer.
Somewhere around year twelve, people stop saying "good boy" and start saying "he's still with us." Like the good days are behind him.
They're not behind him. They're smaller. A slow sniff lap. Sun on the porch. The two-minute game he still wins. Old dogs don't need less love β they need it re-sized.
Today we shipped The Good-Days Routine in Laeli: soft enrichment, gentle rituals, comfort he can lean into. It won't make him young. It makes today good.
That's the whole job now. And it's a good job.
A "hyper" dog is very often an overtired one.
Young dogs need far more sleep than they'll choose on their own. The bouncing-off-the-walls evening isn't always too little exercise β sometimes it's too little rest.
Try protecting nap time before adding another walk. π
Sometimes an adoption doesn't fit, and the dog goes back. It can feel like a failure.
It isn't. It's one step closer to the home that *does* fit β and that home is almost always out there.
The right match is patient. It usually shows up. πΎ
"Drop it" works better as a trade, not a takeaway.
If giving things up always means losing, dogs learn to gulp or play keep-away. Trade up instead: offer something equal or better, and letting go becomes a good deal.
Cooperation beats confiscation, every time.
To fading eyes and stiff joints, the top of the stairs looks like a cliff Fading eyes and stiff joints make that drop feel genuinely scary β dragging or rushing them only adds fear on top of it.

MYTH: A tired dog is a good dog β just run them more.
TRUTH: Exercise alone can wind some dogs UP, like an athlete with no off-switch. What settles a dog is mental work: sniffing, foraging, problem-solving, chewing.
Ten minutes of nose-work beats a mile of fetch. β€οΈ
You put your shoes on, and the whining starts before you touch the door.
So you sneak out. You feel guilty at work. You come home to a welcome so intense it breaks your heart a little.
Alone-time is a skill, and most dogs were never taught it β just left. It builds in minutes, not hours: leave small, return boring, repeat until the door means nothing.
Home Alone in Laeli is that program.
The goal isn't a dog who tolerates your leaving. It's a dog who naps through it.
